Christine Love passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, March 16, 2026. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to Joseph “Joe” Love, and the devoted mother to Melissa (Donnie) Kirk and Patrick Love (Sofia Kelly).
Christine was a proud and loving Gramma to Oliver, Abbie, and Elliott Kirk, who brought her endless joy. Whether one of her grandchildren was first learning to skate, or was later playing for the Perth Blue Wings, Smiths Falls Cubs or Perth United Soccer Club, Christine was one of the biggest fans of her grandchildren’s sports and could often be found in the stands or on the sidelines, cheering them on.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward “Ted” McKernan and Mavis (Hughes) McKernan, as well as her brother, John Edward McKernan. Christine will be missed by her in-laws, the late Donald (Joe) and the late June Love, both of whom loved her like their own. She is survived by her brother, Paul (Kathy) McKernan, will be fondly remembered by her nieces, Tammy (Jason) Peckham and Stacey (Shane) Burchat, and sadly missed by by her four sisters in law Vicky Ash (Serge Labonté), Dawn Risebrough, Ariel (Terry) Forsbrey and April (Cam) Woolley.
In her professional life, Christine dedicated over 30 years to a compassionate and impactful nursing career, beginning after her graduation from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. She started her work at Wellesley Hospital before settling in Newmarket, where she spent 23 years in the Operating Room at York General Hospital (now Southlake Regional Health Centre). Following Christine and Joe’s move to Big Rideau Lake, she continued her calling as a Nurse Care Coordinator with what is now known as Ontario Health at Home. Deeply committed to those she served, she was a fierce advocate for vulnerable patients, always going above and beyond to provide thoughtful, exceptional care.
Christine had a deep love for gardening, cheering on the Blue Jays, and embracing adventure through travel. She was an avid fan of figure skating; travelling around great distances to watch competitions. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, and her creativity shone brightly throughout her life. It was highlighted in instances such as during her time as a camp counsellor and in the special traditions she created with her family. Some of her family’s fondest memories are of the family being all together and singing at the campfire. She will be fondly remembered for her quick mind and love of Jeopardy, often answering questions (correctly) before the contestants on TV!
Above all else, Christine cherished her family and the time they spent together at the lake. She will be deeply missed for her kind, beautiful spirit and her wild, loving heart.
Friends may gather to celebrate Christine’s life at the Royal Canadian Legion, 26 Beckwith St E, Perth, at a celebration of her life on Tuesday, March 31st from 1-4PM. For those wishing, memorial donations to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice would be appreciated by the family in honour of the compassion and care that Christine was provided with.
Arrangements are entrusted to Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth.
