It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of shock and sadness that I wish to express my deepest sympathies on the loss of a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was a very special lady with whom I spent many hours sharing coffee, laughter and meals with beginning when you, Kimberly and Stephen were young children. I treasure those memories greatly and I know you will treasure the memories left to you over the years by your Mom. She was a friend to many and an advocate for anyone she thought needed help.
She will be very much missed by all her friends as well. Her loss will leave a large void in your lives but I hope only the good memories will come to the surface as time goes on. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things we all experience - it never goes away but eventually it doesn't hurt quite so much. I send my thoughts, love and prayers to all of you during this very difficult and sad time. I understand the pain of losing someone very special and I know you will think of her everyday.
Please know that we are thinking of Beth and of you as well.
Love & Hugs,
Brenda & Berkley

Dear Family,
Don't think of her as gone away her journey's just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and tears in a place of warmth & comfort where there are no days & years. Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, & there were sooo many, for nothing loved is ever lost & she was loved so much.
God grant you peace in this time of sorrow.
With deepest sympathy.
Jocelyne & Cliff North.

Martha and Ian Bufton posted a condolence
Dear Stan, Kimberly., Stephen and family--
We were so shocked to hear of Beth's death. She was such a vibrant, kind person who light up the room whereever she was. I (Martha) worked with her briefly at the hospice about eight years ago and she was invariably supportive, thoughtful, funny and helpful to me whether I was teaching a session on bereavement or working as a volunteer. I went back to work full-time just after I started volunteering so couldn't keep up with my hospice work but I did keep up with the work she was doing and I know that we have a hospice program in Kemptville because of her. We can only imagine how much you all will miss her but please know that others will miss her too.
Sincerely and with affection,
Martha and Ian Bufton

Stan, Kim, Stephen, and families: I was so sorry to hear of Beth's untimely passing. Your hearts must surely be broken. I have many memories of Beth, from the time when we were both raising our young families in the Kilmarnock community. There were always lots of laughs to be shared when Beth was around, no matter how chaotic our lives seemed back then. Gone too soon. Stanton, my old schoolmate, I am so sorry that you didn't get to keep her longer.

While I only had the pleasure of meeting Beth a few times, her dedication and commitment to hospice care was immediately noticeable! I so admired her quick wit and honesty in admitting her frustrations when she couldn't move her projects forward as quickly as she wanted (I share those as well), but she never gave up. She always soldiered on! Beth's determination to see hospice care become an integral part of our health care system will live on in those of us who have taken up the torch. I know Beth will be keeping an eye on us all from above!

I was shocked to hear of Beth's death as she was my hero. She showed how palliative care can be brought to a community. She has shown numerous times how one person can make a difference. Connections with Beth
I was shocked to hear the news of Beth's death but do want to remember her legacy - both in the growth and sustenance of our community hospice and specifically in her compassion and generosity to our family when death was at the door. Hospice was of immeasurable value when my Father-in-law was dying 10 years ago providing volunteers to sit with him when we couldn't be there. Later when my Mother-in-law was dying, Beth's no nonsense approach and listening ear were helpful to me to keep things in perspective. Her passion for Hospice was contagious! All God's blessings to the family and may she rest in peace.

Beth was a light in a very dark time !
Beth and I met in october of 2007 it had been the hardest year of my life .. dealing with the sudden death of my father Kenneth Leroy Reid who had been killed earlier that year in a transport tractor tailer accident. A close friend of mine had mention that the hospice might be a place that I could find help and strength with healing from this tragedy that happened to myself and my family .... Beth was there for me and took the time out of her very busy schedule to listen and help me get back up, for at that time I wasn't sure that was possible! It is so hard when we lose people we love and to know that our lives still must go on. Beth helped me stand back up and for that I am eternally grateful and will miss her deeply :(

It is with deepest sympathy but fondest memories . . .
I have had the good fortune to work with hospice for about 12 years and met Beth early in those years. She was a formidable and determined advocate for hospice care and made sure that I - and everyone else - knew it.
I remember a not-so-long ago hospice conference that I coordinated at the Delawana Inn which Beth attended. Despite its beautiful location, there are many stairs in the Conference Centre and I was concerned about our delegates going up and down the steps all day - we're not spring chickens anymore!
Well - the only easy way to get up and down those steps was this very slow and very apparent wheelchair ramp. I was standing near the ramp when Beth came in and she looked at me and said "I don't want to get on that". I looked at Beth and said, "Beth, I can't wait to get on it and am so glad you're here so that I can ride with you. By the end of this day, I won't be able to climb one more stair unless I can hitch a ride with you".
Beth and I rode that ramp together and for me, it was first class.
I'll never forget Beth. My deepest sympathy to her family and loved ones.

Dear ElizaBeth
Dear ElizaBeth
I will always remember the first time I met you and Stan after the death of both my Father and young Brother. I was immediately touched by your warm compassionate response to me. You were so genuine. I later joined the North Grenville Community Hospice to discover so much of your colorful and wonderful talents.
For many years, I have watched you give selflessly to so many individuals and families dealing with life threatening diseases. Your devotion to the work has made it possible for many families to face death with dignity. You worked countless hours beyond the call of duty and stuck by the Hospice even when the funding was so low that it meant working without pay. You never lost faith in the purpose for Hospice work and always trusted that the services would improve at all levels. And because of you this is all happening. Today we are better funded and are looking forward to having a Hospice Building in Kemptville. Thank you Beth.
Your humour through all your trials and tribulations will always remain an inspiration to me.
I will miss you dear friend.

Working with Beth over the years in Kemptville
It is with great sadness that we hear of this sudden loss. Beth was always a 'shoot straight from the hip'; yet caring and compassionate individual. I had the opportunity work with Beth each year planning the Santa Claus Parade and the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rotary Park, as well as forward and promote all of the Hospice Events to the Membership, giving them the opportunity to support this special organization in our community. I was very pleased to learn that there were plans in the works to 'build a Hospice' building by the water in Riverside Park. What a perfect setting for a individuals to have the care and peace needed to die with dignity. I was further pleased to see the name change to the Beth Donovan Hospice; honouring the matriarch. I knew Beth had back surgery and when I spoke to her soon after she was so pleased with the results. In our daily, busy lives, we miss contacting the ones we care about and I am very saddened this day that I didn't have a chance to say hello again and now am saying goodbye. With sincerest condolences to the family, Wendy Chapman, Executive Director and on behalf of the North Grenville Chamber of Commerce.

Getting to Know Her...
We met Beth when, in 2001, we had her as the "facilitator" for Blair and Sons' Bereavement Seminar. Her caring help and guidance was a true blessing to all in that seminar. After completing the seminar, we started a monthly dinner get-together (which continues), and Beth would join us as her busy schedule permitted - often bringing Stan along too. We came to know her incredible sense of humor and keen interest in truly helping others. We will miss her greatly.
