Obituary of Alvin Robert Paul

Paul, Alvin Robert 

(May 2, 1925 – March 21, 2023)

It is with sadness yet gratitude for a long life well lived that we announce the passing on Tuesday March 21st, 2023 of Alvin Paul at the age of 97.  Alvin was the beloved husband of Isobel (nee Jordan) for 62 years and a cherished and revered father to his children Heather Wood of Haliburton and Brenda (Grant) Gibson of Oakville.  Alvin was fondly called “Papa” by his 4 precious grandchildren Mackenzie and Madison Wood and Grace and Emma Gibson.  Alvin is survived by his brother and best friend Delmer Paul, as well as his dear sister-in-law Mavis Woolham and brothers-in-law Eric Dixon and Rod Woolham.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents Melville and Leolla (Wilson) Paul, his sisters and their husbands Florence and Lindsay Ferguson, Julia and Jack Duncan, his infant brother Elmer Paul and his sisters-in-law Frances Dixon and Thelma Paul.  Uncle Alvin will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Alvin developed a love of cars from an early age and honed his mechanical expertise throughout his life.  After working for Lanark County Roads Department and A&B Ford, Alvin and his partner Jack Andison proudly founded and operated Perth Motors on Highway 7 for 23 years. Alvin earned an outstanding reputation for honesty, integrity, and quality workmanship, uncommon traits of a used car salesman and mechanic. He loved “wheeling and dealing” and often travelled to Toronto to find a reliable car for his customers. When Alvin was not working at the garage, he could be found at the family farm, tending his abundant vegetable gardens and the beautiful farm property. He was an avid outdoorsman, always finding time for his hunting trips, snowmobile outings and other hobbies acquired during retirement including golfing, modern square dancing and travel.  Alvin will be remembered for his quick wit, wise advice, strong work ethic and love of serving and supporting his family. 

Friends are invited to join Alvin’s family on Friday March 24th, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore Street West Perth.  Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday March 25th, 2023 at St. Paul's United Church, 25 Gore Street West, Perth followed by a reception in the church hall and then the interment in Crawford Cemetery.

In remembrance of Alvin, donations to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (Perth site) or to St. Paul’s United Church in Perth would be appreciated.
