Obituary of Cynthia Payumo Philion

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Cynthia Philion (née Payumo) on December 9, 2024. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Cynthia passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and children.

Cynthia was predeceased by her father, Sebastian Payumo. She is survived by her devoted husband, Peter; her loving children, Clarissa and Seth; her spoiled dogs, Houston and Apollo; her caring mother, Lila; and her younger brothers, Andre and Adrian. In addition to her immediate family, Cynthia leaves behind a cherished circle of friends, colleagues.

She was an excellent cook, known for her Filipino dishes—especially her pancit. She loved cooking and hosting, and always made sure everyone had a plate before serving herself.

Cynthia embodied strength, determination, and bravery, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Though she left her teaching position at Buenavista High School in the Philippines decades ago, she remained in the hearts of her former students, who continued to reach out to her over the years.

Cynthia dedicated 18 years to Shorewood Packaging, steadily advancing to a role in Quality Assurance. When the company closed, she pursued her passion for helping others, returning to school to become a nurse. She then worked in the forensic and security treatment wards of Brockville Psychiatric Hospital for several years. Cynthia was incredibly proud to be a nurse!

While undergoing various cancer treatments, Cynthia continued to work as long as possible to help support her family.

Cynthia found joy in simple pleasures— cooking and teaching Filipino recipes; watching K-dramas and travel vlogs; scouring Facebook marketplace; bragging about her children, and playing word games (which she won almost every time!). She also enjoyed napping with her dogs and receiving foot rubs from Peter

The family extends their gratitude to the Queensway-Carleton Cancer ward and ICU team for the compassionate care and comfort they provided to Cynthia. They are also profoundly thankful to the Spiritual Care Team and Father Jonathan for offering them much-needed guidance and solace during Cynthia's final hours.

Cynthia’s life serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and resilience. In her memory, the Philions encourage you to give thanks to a healthcare worker.

A private celebration of Cynthia's life will be held at a later date.
