Peacefully at home Paula passed away surrounded by loving people on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 at the age of 52 years. Paula was predeceased by both parents, James Patrick Ritchie and Ann Muciy along with her maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and countless friends she deeply loved and admired. She is survived by her sister Cindy (Sean) Tompkins, her aunt Dorothy Zoppa, cousins, family and many souls - all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Paula was a tireless advocate for those she felt were marginalized by society. She had a fierce passion for human rights, women's rights and for those who suffered with mental health issues as she did. Her pursuit of truth and justice left her feeling misunderstood at times by the greater whole. She was a warrior to the end in terms of her own personal battles whilst dealing with brain injuries. She never wavered in her search for meaning, healing and divine purpose for herself and all of humanity. She was a crusader and champion for all those who needed a voice.
Following her graduation from McMaster University Paula had the privilege of working with individuals of all ages who were afflicted with wide-ranging disabilities, both developmental and physical. At that point she found her true calling to assist others forever altering her perception of life, additionally she volunteered for the reading network in Perth, Lanark County Interval House and for many years for the distress and community information line. Her final years she was a devoted massage therapist and reiki practitioner. Paula always felt that her combined professional and personal experiences only strengthened her commitment to changing the world. Her ultimate goal was to be a beacon of light for all humans in less fortunate circumstances. She believed that every person on earth should be offered the same rights to equal treatment regardless of their suffering and hardships.
A very special thank you extended from the depths of her soul to the following people: Julie Heney of Ontario Health at Home, her end-of-life Dula Valerie Oldfield, and of course Dr. Matthew Wonnacott for their compassion and care.
