Obituary of Dorothy Mae Kelly
Dorothy Mae Kelly (Mansell) December 22 1939 - December 29, 2024.
Born Hanna, Alberta, the middle child of five siblings (Franklin, Eva, Lewis, Myrna) to William
(Bill) Mansell and Dorothy (nee Hammond). Dorothy and was married to Elmer Roy Kelly (1936-
2022), for more than 60 years, they transferred to the Ottawa area in 1960, Elmer to RCMP HQ
and Dorothy as an RNA to the Ottawa Civic Hospital Nursery and eventually to the Pediatric
Centre for over 30 years. In Ottawa and Delta ON, they grew their family (Marilyn, Darlene)
and extensive network of friends; together, they created a home that welcomed everyone.
At heart Dorothy loved world travel, sports including cross country skiing and hockey, music
and always a little mischief. She contributed to her community, volunteering her time and
commitment to various organizations and causes with personal meaning including the Capital
City Chorus Better Half-Notes and the Cancer Society.
Dorothy was a pillar of common sense and many people experienced her loyalty, friendship,
counsel, good and gracious nature, her sense of adventure and humour; a true role model for
how to live a full, fun and impactful life.
She cherished her grandsons, Blair Stewart & Quinn Stewart and thought Paul Stewart was a
terrific son-in-law. She was a much-loved aunt, great aunt to all in her Kelly and Mansell
families.
Ever thankful for Marilyn’s return (with Peter Grant) from Alberta in 2015 to provide in-home
care and assistance to both Dorothy and Elmer, we could not have gotten through the past
eight years without the excellent team of dedicated, compassionate and caring professionals in
the Maples Neighbourhood of Lanark Lodge in Perth. Thank you all so very much.
This has been a long good-bye for Dorothy and after her tremendous battle, we feel her relief in
breaking free from her Alzheimer's world. In remembrance of Dorothy, donations may be made
to Lanark Lodge (99 Christie Lake Road, Perth ON K7H 3C6) or to the Alzheimer Society of
Canada.
A celebration for Dorothy will be held Saturday April 5, 2025 at ALE, Amberwood Village Golf &
Recreation, 54 Springbrook Drive, Stittsville ON, K2S 1B9.
Visitors welcome from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm. You know, she always loved a cocktail party!
