Obituary of Joan Boothby

Peacefully, at Lanark Lodge, Joan passed away on Thursday, March 13th, 2025 at the age of 77. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew her. She and her late husband of over 52 years, James, are now reunited and together again. Joan was the loving mother of Julie (Carl Loucks) and John Boothby (Katrina), and the cherished grandmother of Adam, Sara, Maddy, Jamie, Josie and Ronan. She was the dear sister of Almeta (late Arnold Truelove), late Ken Cooke (Evelyn), late Shelvy (Ron Pollard), Donnie Cooke (Norma), Linda Rheinheimer and Holly (Barry Purdy). Joan will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, a number of special daughters, extended family and friends.

Joan had a deep passion for bringing joy to others, particularly through her love of cards. She was known for her thoughtful and personal touch, always remembering to send a birthday card, a note of encouragement, or a message of love to those around her. A dedicated member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) at St. Stephens Church, Joan was actively involved in her church community, contributing her time and energy to various activities. Her faith and her belief in community were central to her life. With her camera always in hand, she captured the beauty of the world around her, preserving memories for her family and friends to cherish for years to come.

She proudly graduated as part of the first class of healthcare aides at Perth Campus. For ten years, she worked at Lanark Lodge, providing care and comfort to those in need. Her dedication to her work was only interrupted by a workplace injury, after which she devoted herself to raising her two children. In addition to her other talents, Joan was an accomplished cake decorator. For many years, she poured her heart into creating beautiful birthday cakes and wedding cakes that were a highlight at countless celebrations.

The family wish to thank all the staff and nurses at Lanark Lodge for their compassion, support and care.

A celebration of Joan’s life will take place at a later date. Interment will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Brooke. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth.
