Obituary of Pauline Marie Nicole Kolano

Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Heart Institute with her husband by her side, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the age of 81.  Pauline was the beloved wife and best friend to Joe Kolano.  She was the loving and devoted mother to Shirley Ann Durant and Brent (Bonnie) Durant; and stepmother to Zita Kolano (Jason Blakey).  She was a cherished grandmother to Dustin Durant (Kate Traviss), and Gabby, Sophia and Talya Blakey.  She was predeased by her parents Fern and Beth (nee Marion) Lamarche.  Also left to mourn this loss are her siblings Ann (Brian) Mussell, Marlene (Richard) O'Conner, her sisters-in-law Jane (late Mario) Bondyra, and Stella Leblanc.  Pauline was also predeceased by her brother Paul Lamarche.  She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews; Carla, Brad, Todd, Angie, Johnny, Cathy, Marianne and Charlie; as well as her many cousins, her extended family, Joe's entire family and her many cherished friends.

Pauline proudly worked and was gifted with helping the developmentally delayed for over 50 years at Rideau Regional, St. Lawrence Regional Centre and Tayside Community Options, specifically Rimmer and Cameron House.  She started in direct care, because of her compassion and strong work ethic, she moved on to supervisory and management positions (Unit Director Linden Gardens). After retirement at the age of 49, she quickly returned to providing direct care, her primary love. Pauline loved playing golf and spent many days with family and friends at the Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club, and had time allowed, would have played 7 days a week.  She managed to record four hole-in-ones, and was Class B Ladies Champion, and held executive positions in the ladies' sections.

When not golfing, Pauline enjoyed the odd trip to the casino and looked forward to playing card games, especially Texas Hold'Em with friends.

She was an absolute people person and never had a bad thing to say about anyone, and never had a mean bone in her body.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

There will be a celebration of life taking place at the Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club at a later date.   Once confirmed, we will repost the obituary with the dates and times.  We will encourage anyone attending to wear their favourite golf attire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Ottawa Heart Institute or to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation, to the Rehabilitation Unit.
