Obituary of David Leslie Popplewell
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of David Popplewell in his 67th year on the 16th of April 2025. After a lengthy illness, he left this world on his terms.
David was born in Perth and spent his whole life staying close to home around his family. Dave was the eldest son of the late Leslie and Doris (Chaplin) Popplewell, brother to Dawn (Mike) Asselstine, the late Mark (Lori) and the late Matthew (Lisa). He was the loved uncle to Nathanial (Candice), Melissa (Brandon) Asselstine, Nolan, Christopher (Patricia) Popplewell, Samuel, and Luke Popplewell. Also a great uncle to Liam, Blaire Asselstine, and Lorenzo Gregorio-Popplewell, all of whom he was just starting to get to know. They had not learned yet that he was known to have life savers, jelly beans, and suckers around. “Uncle Dave” also made time for weekly fishing trips and weekly visits with treats.
Many knew Dave from the contractors desk at Perth Home Hardware Building Centre. A familiar face over the years at Ronway Lumber, Tay Build All, Perth Planning Mill, and Beaver Lumber as well. He was also known for all the blueprints he did for local contractors over many years.
He loved his chickens, his time “fishing” at the family cottage with his cousins, wood working, and deer hunting with friends. All of which he had not been able to do in many years. There will be an empty spot at the table. You will be missed.
Thank you to the workers at Aspira Carolina, to all the wonderful nurses at the dialysis unit in Smiths Falls, and the nurses and doctors in the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. All have a place in our hearts for the care you have given to Dave and family.
In remembrance of Dave, donations to the dialysis unit at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation, Smiths Falls site would be appreciated.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth, ON.
