Obituary of Dr. John Frederick George Atack
In Loving Memory of Dr. John Fredrick George Atack
November 15th, 1948 - April 30th, 2025
Dr. John Atack, 76, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Widely known as one of the very best in his field, John was a brilliant and compassionate equine veterinarian whose dedication to horses and the people who loved them defined his life.
John's connection with horses began at an early age. He spent his childhood in the saddle, and his talent and drive took him all the way to the Pan American Games, narrowly missing a spot on the Olympic team. Though he didn't stand on that podium, his love for the sport and the animals never faded. Instead, it inspired a lifelong journey into veterinary medicine-a calling he answered with heart, skill, and humility.
He went on to establish Bellevue Equine Clinic, a practice that became a trusted name in the equestrian world. John was the one you called when things got tough, the steady hand in emergencies, and the voice of reason in moments of uncertainty. Whether treating a champion athlete or a beloved companion pony, he approached every case with dedication, patience, and the utmost care.
John was equally devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, and their two daughters, Julie Lyn a.k.a 'Bug' and Madeleine a.k.a 'Madie Mouse'. He shared a close bond with his son-in-law, Dylan, and took immense pride in his grandchildren: Olivia, Seeley, Grayson, Leighton Rae, and Noelle, they were the light of his life. He could often be found giving them golf cart rides in the backyard, sneaking them treats, or telling legendary stories that grew taller with every retelling. His dogs, Ducky and Eddy rarely left his side and were treasured members of the family. John is also survived by his brother, Dr. David Atack A.K.A 'Big Bro', and his sister, Susan Atack- Brousseau a.k.a Sue Boo.
John had a way of making people feel seen and cared for. He brought the same passion and integrity to his family, his clinic, and his community as he did to the horses he worked with. He lived with purpose, worked with pride, and loved without limits.
A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday May 17th, 2025 starting at 3:00 P.M. in the Blair & Son Family Reception Centre, 15 Gore St. West, Perth. Friends, family, and colleagues are warmly invited to come share memories and honor a life lived with passion, purpose, and love. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in John's memory to a local animal rescue or equine therapy program.
Dr. John Atack's legacy lives on in every horse he cared for, every life he touched, and in the love that continues to surround his family.
