
Obituary of Kathryn Anne Barnes
KATHRYN BARNES
Kathy Barnes was called home to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday May 6, 2025 at Fairview Manor, Almonte, Ontario. She was born in Ottawa, Ontario on November 6, 1941. Kathy attended primary school in Normetal, PQ and secondary school in Almonte. She graduated from the Nightingale School of Nursing in Toronto in 1963, completed certification in Public Health at the University of Western Ontario in 1964, and trained in the treatment of Alcohol and Drug Addiction at the Addiction Research Foundation. She nursed in Kirkland Lake and then in public health in Peterborough. In 1972, she left her beloved nursing profession to join Operation Mobilisation. Aboard the MV Logos, a ship that visited numerous ports, she helped distribute Christian educational materials and form connections with new friends in Southeast Asia. She later resided in Hawaii where she was invited to host a cable television program called ‘The Great Commission.’ She returned to Perth, Ontario in 1984 where she cared for her ageing parents, Fred and Amy. Kathy brought much joy to the lives of family and friends through her faith in Christ and innumerable acts of kindness.
She is predeceased by her parents, Frederick Gilbert and Amy Frances (Davis) Barnes, and her brother, David Barnes. She is remembered with love and gratitude by her brother Ron (Belinda), niece Sacha Vandeweghe (Tony), nephews Michael Barnes (Annabelle) and Brad Barnes (Melissa) along with her great-nieces, great-nephews and countless dear friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Rossi and the staff in Garden Walk at Fairview Manor for their kind and exemplary care. The family is also grateful for the friendship and gracious support given to Kathy by her cousins, friends and neighbours, especially during her decline from Alzheimer’s disease.
Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. West, Perth on Monday May 12, 2025 at a visitation and gathering from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service in the Chapel at 1:00 P.M. Interment Saint James Anglican Cemetery, Carp, Ontario.
