I had the privilege of knowing Mike for 37 years, and in that time, he became more than a friend—he was a connector, a creator, and a true community champion. Like so many friendships in those days, ours began at the Red Fox. Mike’s passion for Perth—and his persuasive charm—helped convince me to stay after moving from White Rock, BC. Meeting Heather sealed the deal, and years later, Mike stood beside me as my Best Man.
Mike had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether over the many TGIF dinners he had at his place or just a conversation over a coffee, or a glass of wine, he made you feel like you belonged. He was a planner and a doer—whether in real estate, retail, renovations, or politics. He sold us our home, built our deck with his son Ross, and served his community as a Perth Councillor and later, making history as the only Mayor Tay Valley Township has ever had. He even worked behind the scenes in federal politics, always focused on building something better—not for recognition, but for the good of others.
Mike also faced cancer, for most of his life, with quiet strength and resilience. And after each bout, he would bounce back, moving forward into the next stage of his renewed life. He never let it define him. His strength was quiet, steady, and deeply inspiring.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he helped shape, and the friendships he nurtured. I’m grateful for every moment we shared.
Thank you, Mike—for everything.
