John passed away peacefully in his home, as he wished, surrounded by the love and support of family on Saturday May 31st, 2025 at the age of 95 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Habib and Wardi (Aboud) Hauraney, and the first love of his life Audrey (Smith). He was also predeceased by siblings Adele, Lillian Dewey (late Grant), Madelyn Slegg (late Maurice), May Stranberg (late Doug), Elie (late Edith), Henry (Jean) and Ruth Saliba (late Sam).
He will be sadly missed by son Paul (Sue Maynard), Paul's daughter Jessica Cunningham (Joe) and children Zoey, Maggie and Sadie, Paul's son Nicholas (Jill) and their child Vinnie, Paul's son Matthew (Christy) and children Norah, Stella and Audrey, Sue's children Nancy Maynard (her children Caleb and Tyler), Michelle Maynard (Dominic Forbes) and her children Spencer & Seth; daughter Jill Hampton (Bentley Crain), son Willem Yongo, son David Hauraney (Joan Orok) and sister Amelia Canning (late Bill), and by the second love of his life, Shirley Wright (Card); Shirley's daughter Debbie and son Guy (Lynn McGinnis).
John was born in Smiths Falls and came to Perth in 1955. He worked on the railroad for many years, and he was Plant Manager of Central Wire Inc. for thirteen years. Beginning in 1968, he spent many successful years in the insurance profession representing Mutual Life of Canada. John was a member of the President's Club for twenty-six years, received a National Quality award for twenty-six years, life and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and served three terms on the Agent's Executive Council representing agents across Canada. He retired in 1995. John had a lifelong commitment to his community. He served three years on the St. James' Anglican Church Council, several years on the Perth Public School Board and the Perth Planning Board. John was a past President and Paul Harris Fellowship award
winner completing sixty years of membership with the Rotary Club of Perth until it recently dissolved. He was Past Master of True Britons Lodge and was active in the Lodge for over seventy years, a Member of the Tunis Temple Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. and Past President of the Tay Clyde Shrine Club.
Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W., Perth on Friday June 6th, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Additional visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. followed by the funeral service in the chapel on Saturday June 7th, 2025 at 1:30 P.M. Interment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery followed by a reception in the Blair & Son Family Centre.
Memorial donations to honour John's life would be appreciated to Tunis Shriners (Land O' Lakes Club), The Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation (Perth site) or The Perth and District Community Foundation.
The family wish to extend their undying gratitude to Dr. Shelly Xu, the doctors and nurses and health care workers at the Perth Hospital as well as the nurses and PSWs from Bayshore Health Care for their amazing care and support of John over the past month.
