Obituary of Richard Wayne Smith
Remembering a life well lived
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Wayne Smith, who left us June 15, 2025, in his 69th year. Richard was born on July 7, 1956 in Bedford, Quebec and lived a life filled with stubbornness and talent. His strong constitution kept him fighting through his many health issues over the last 20 years.
Richard is survived by his sister Linda Smith and her family, who will fondly remember the person he was, forever. He was predeceased by his father Wayne, and mother Shirley (Brunger) Smith, brothers Ed and Brian. Also survived by Yvonne Watt, best friend and confidante over the last few years. Richard’s memory will be kept in the hearts of many family members, near and far.
Throughout his life, Richard was known for his woodworking/building skills, his large gardens of vegetables, and producing maple syrup. He participated in making syrup, one last time, this past spring. Richard touched the lives of many through contributions of surplus vegetables to the food bank, in the community. He loved to research and try new ways of doing things while sticking to the tried-and-true methods.
Visitation to honour and celebrate Richard’s life will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28th at Blair and Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls. Funeral service immediately following visitation. Friends and family are welcome to attend to pay their respects and share their memories. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation. Special thank you to Care Partners, Brockville.
Richard will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by Ernie and Kathy, Daniel, and Yvonne’s family. His legacy of caring for all and compassion for everything, will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest in peace, dear Richard. You will be forever in our hearts.
