Obituary of Sandy McAdoo
Sandy passed away peacefully surrounded by family at The Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, Ontario on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025, in his 83rd year after a hard fought 3-year battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Phyllis (McDougald) McAdoo. He was the beloved husband of 60 years and best friend for 82 years to Cynda (Ferguson). Left to mourn are his children Michele McAdoo, Sean (Karen Mowbray) McAdoo, his grandchildren Wyatt (his mom Julie Stewart) McAdoo, and Hannah Bain. He will be remembered by his siblings Bud (Sue) McAdoo, Phil (Chris) McAdoo, Donna (Ross) Poulter, Wendy (Robert) Reid, sister in-law Roberta (Brian) Healey and many nieces and nephews and very dear cousins Barb (Wib) Crain, Sylvia (Ray) Lynch and many friends.
Sandy was a carpenter for fifty plus years. Sandy’s father started McAdoo Construction in 1949 in Kingston, Ontario. Sandy restructured the business in 1972 and then moved the business to the Perth area in 1980, and his son Sean continued the business. He was known for his dedication to the home building industry and supporting students going through the trade program. He was President of the Ontario Home Builders, Kingston chapter, and one of the founding members of the Lanark-Leeds chapter. He will forever be remembered for his quick wit, storytelling, love of hockey, passion for working in his wood shop; and boating on the Mississippi River playing his favourite country songs.
A very special thank you to his caregivers from the Irving Greenburg Cancer Clinic, his oncologist Dr. Canil, his PSW nurse Taralyn Buchanan (who listened to all of his stories), Dr Robert (Bob) and Leslie Del Grande, the medical staff at The Great War Memorial Perth Hospital, and the many friends who called and visited Sandy during his illness.
