Obituary of Judy Heaslip
Judith “Judy” Marie Agnes Heaslip (née Amo)
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith “Judy” Heaslip on July 2, 2025, at the age of 80.
Beloved wife of David Heaslip for over 61 years. She was the cherished mother of Kelly (David) Blair, Krista (Bob) Bannon, Jamie Heaslip, Kerry Heaslip, and Michael (Jennifer) Heaslip. Adored grandmother of Erika (Cedrick) Blair, Brook (Allison) Blair, Tyler (Meaghan) Rabb, Brandon Rabb, Emma-Claire Heaslip, Mallory Heaslip, Jacob (Nicole) Heaslip, Olivya Joynt, Davis Joynt, and Oakley Heaslip. Judy was also a proud great-grandmother (“GG”) of Carson Blair, Brady Blair, Delilah Heaslip, and Griffin Foley.
She is predeceased by her parents Arthur and Marjorie Amo, and siblings Larry Amo, Jack (Carol) Amo, Barbara (late Charlie) Sherwood, Godfrey (Ria) Amo, and her precious great-grandson Baxter Heaslip. Judy is lovingly remembered by her brothers Peter (Susan) Amo and Paul (late Carol) Amo, as well as her sisters-in-law Patsy (Robert) Dano, Theresa Fader, Lorie (Harry) Bennett, and Kim (late Chris) McKenna. Special siser-in-law to the late June Amo and Marie Hill. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Judy’s life was centered on her deep love for her family. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by those she loved. She had a special touch for baking, creating delicious desserts for David’s sweet tooth and ensuring every grandchild’s birthday was marked with a beautifully decorated cake. The holidays were a time of special memory making, with Judy and her grandchildren happily building gingerbread houses together each Christmas. Her homemade buns, always in high demand, became a beloved tradition at every family gathering.
During the summer, Judy could be found cheering on David at the racetracks, where she was his number one fan. Many life long friendships were made during these days. In her younger days, she even raced in a ladies powderpuff event and proudly took home the win. Judy and David also shared a passion for travel, with many cruise vacations that they enjoyed in their later years. These trips were a way to create lasting memories and enjoy the beauty of life together.
A woman of great creativity, Judy expressed herself through painting, often bringing to life scenes on treasures she discovered at their family business, Falls Iron & Metal. These gifts will forever be cherished by her family. She was also a gifted poet, and her heartfelt verses often brought warmth and joy to those fortunate enough to hear them.
Judy was well known for her sense of humor. She found joy in the company of her “Hot Dog Ladies” and “Library Ladies”, two special groups of friends who brought laughter and happiness to her life over the years. In her younger years, her playful alter ego, Charlotte, was a source of mischief and fun at family gatherings, particularly at weddings, where Charlotte was always the life of the party.
Judy’s strength and courage were evident during her battle with cancer. She faced each challenge with remarkable grace, never once complaining. Her resilience was truly remarkable, especially after experiencing an allergic reaction to chemotherapy that triggered a cardiac arrest and required CPR. Her strength during the recovery from broken ribs and a fractured sternum was nothing short of miraculous and inspiring. She lived each day as a gift, showing a quiet but unwavering strength.
A passionate animal lover and bird watcher, Judy had a special place in her heart for all creatures, big and small. Her love for animals was matched only by her love for her family, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Smiths Falls Golf & Country Club, 125 Golf Club Rd
Smiths Falls, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., where friends and family are invited to gather in Judy’s honour. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors Smiths Falls, 613-283-2800.
Forever in our hearts, her spirit lives on in the love she gave, the family she nurtured, and the memories we will hold dear.
As you go through life, look for signs in nature that will remind you of Judy. Whether it’s the bright red flash of a cardinal perched nearby, the delicate flutter of a butterfly on the breeze, or the graceful dance of a dragonfly hovering in the sun. These beautiful creatures, like Judy, will forever remind us of her spirit, her joy, and the love she shared with all who knew her.
