Obituary of Beryl Elizabeth Tritton (nee White)

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Beryl Tritton in hospital at Perth, Ontario on Friday July 4; surrounded and comforted by family as she’d wished. Beryl was a proud Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and is survived by her two sons Mark (Joyce
Kirkham) and Greg, her grandchildren Karissa Tritton and Nick Tritton (Cheyenne Rice) and Nick and Cheyenne’s six children: Emma Tritton, Taylor Tritton, Kelita Tritton, Koda Tritton, Claire Diome and Grayden Diome as well as other extended family on the Tritton, White and Kirkham sides. She was predeceased by husbands Robert F. Tritton (1988) and Stanley Garvin (1999).

Mom was born in North Bay, Ontario and moved to Montreal as a young girl where she eventually pursued a clerical career and in the course of that training met Robert "Bob" and they married in 1949. They built their first home in the Montreal suburb of Roxboro and she and Bob studied nights to get their university degrees from Sir George Williams University. Mom was working as Secretary to the President of Abbott Laboratories at the time, and later followed an interest in social work and began that vocation at Lakeshore Community Services. When Bob was transferred to Owen Sound Ontario they began the next phase of life there, eventually finding a cherished home at a property known as “Rossmoyne”. Mom worked for Grey Bruce Family & Children’s Services (then known as Owen Sound Children’s Aid Society). There she had a long and widely respected tenure as a Social Worker, impacting many young lives with her blend of common sense and empathy.

Upon their mutual retirement Mom and Dad moved to Brockville and Mom decided to continue her social work activities, eventually moving to Perth after Bob’s death in 1988 and finding a new home for her expertise at Family and Children’s Services of Lanark, Leeds & Grenville, based out of the Perth location. Mom eventually retired from that position but continued working as a private consultant specializing in Foster Home Studies. She reluctantly gave that up at the age of 80 due to failing eyesight. Over the course of her years in
the Perth area she enjoyed the local bowling league, drives along country roads and also volunteered with various organizations, among those roles serving as President of the VON and the of the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds Grenville.

At her final home, “The Tweedsmuir” condo in Perth, she was among the first residents and made many friends - a number of those people being of great help in recent years and to whom we owe thanks. Mom made many friendships and encountered a wide array of people over the years all of whom benefited from her generous character and wise counsel. Many enjoyed lively political discussions as Mom had a fondness for politics - local, national and international. Mom also enjoyed the company of many “beasts” over the years, some
her sons’ keepings including horses, but most importantly her dogs. She loved their companionship and if there is any justice in the afterlife she’s happily rejoined them now. We will all miss those interactions and the family will seem less whole without her as the head of our collective households. We miss you Mom.

Internment to take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Perth. A celebration of Life will be held at Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Saturday July 26th, 2025 from 2:00pm - 4:30pm. We look forward to family and friends joining us to honour a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beryl’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds Grenville or L.A.W.S. would be much appreciated.
