Obituary of Donald Clarence Grant

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald C. Grant. Don passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6th at the age of 76. Beloved husband of 55 years to Ivy. Loving father of Bev (Reo), Lisa and Michael (Susana). Cherished grandfather of Matthew, Emily, Justin and Jake.

Don was a lifelong educator who taught math, science and physics at SFDCI for much of his career. A true renaissance man, Don had an extraordinary range of skills and interests - from woodworking and home building to computers and aviation. He could fix almost anything and had a talent for all the trades, whether it was wiring, plumbing or roofing. He especially loved woodworking and his handcrafted cutting boards and furniture found their way into homes and hearts across the Ottawa Valley.

In the 1980s Don founded a computer business; building and selling systems across a wide region at a time when most people hadn’t even touched one yet. He was well ahead of his time and loved helping people embrace new technology.

Don also made friendships through the Smiths Falls Flying Club, the S.F. Golf Club and the S.F. and Perth Bridge clubs. An avid outdoorsman, he loved cooking, hunting, fishing and working on his beloved farm - planting trees, harvesting lumber and making maple syrup.

Most of all, Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who generously passed on his knowledge and passions to the next generations. His kindness, curiosity and quiet ingenuity will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Special thanks for the outstanding care Don received at the Smiths Falls and Civic hospitals. There will be a Celebration of Life taking place on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 Smiths Falls.
