Obituary of Brian Merrill Metcalfe
Brian Merrill Metcalfe
May 4,1962 - August 3, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Merrill Metcalfe after a very hard and fast battle with cancer on August 3, 2025.
Brian was born in Almonte to Merrill and Colleen, then raised in Pakenham on the family farm. Admired brother to Alan, Randy (Pat), and Leanna (Paul).
He eventually settled in Smiths Falls where he met his soulmate, Cindy. Known for his smile and rich laughter, Brian made many lifelong friends over the years. Brian was a beloved husband and life partner to his wife Cindy Metcalfe. He was blessed with four beautiful daughters Amber (Jai), Sandra (Jon), Amanda (Nic), and Brianna (Laszlo). Brian was a dedicated grandpa to his treasured grandchildren: Zoltan, Elena, Fletcher, Derek and Lydia. Brian was a charismatic brother-in-law to Cathy (Steve), Dave (Mary), Dacin (June), Tracey (Anne), and Leslie. He was a loving uncle to Ashley, Alexis, Hannah, Avery, Danielle, Abbey and Blake.
Brian was a proud family man, close to his many cousins. He greatly enjoyed his chess games over the years with Tina McKenna. He passed on his love of the game of chess and backgammon to his children and grandchildren.
Beyond his family life he was proud to have given 35 years of service to the Canadian Pacific Railway. When he was not on the railroad, he took great pride in volunteering for the local hockey team, the Smiths Falls Bears as well as the CCHL. His love and passion for hockey was well known around the league as he dedicated over 35 years of service volunteering in various roles. He started with the role of Goal Judge and ended in the role of Official Game Scorer. He had his own intermission segment on the Flo broadcasts called Bear Tales.
Beyond his passion for hockey, football (Hamilton Tiger Cats), baseball (San Diego Padres) and countless rock concerts kept him busy.
Brian was privileged to have an Incredible best friend in Derek Durant. The family would like to acknowledge how Derek went above and beyond for Brian from beginning to end.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Jason Clark, The Filoso Family, Jeff Covell and the entire Smiths Falls Bears Hockey team during this difficult time.
Although the legend of our lives has gone way too soon, we know he was greeted immediately by the grandpugs Sookie and Waffles, with their tails wagging and so many pug kisses. We love you !
