
Obituary of Garry James Murphy
Passed away peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the age of 77. Garry was the beloved husband and best friend of Judy Murphy (nee Wilkes) for more than 56 years. He was a loving and devoted father of Christopher (Michelle) Murphy and Michelle (John) Pakenham. He was a proud Papa of Alyssa-Lynne, Emma-Jean and Gavin Pakenham. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Sharon (Andy) Lamarche, Clarence (Donna) Murphy, Brian (Judy) Murphy, Kevin (Kathy) Murphy, Ian (Kelly) Murphy, Noreen (Russell) Findlay, Paul (Bonnie) Murphy, David (Holly) Murphy and Mike Murphy (Deb Kirkby) and the late Lorraine Murphy. He is predeceased by his parents John James (JJ) and Kathleen (nee Valliquette) Murphy. Garry will be sadly missed by Judy’s sister Lynne Pilon and her brother Glenn (Veronica) Wilkes. He is also predeceased by his brother-in-law Larry Pilon, his mother and father-in-law Earl and Margaret Wilkes, and Margaret's second husband Steve Coughlin. Garry will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends in the Smiths Falls and surrounding communities.
Garry spent 30+ years at Alcan in Kingston, before moving to Smiths Falls and worked 10+ years at Herseys and 5+ years as the Environmental Services Manager at the Smiths Falls/Perth Hospital. He was active in his communities, volunteering many hours with the Civitan Club and started up the Kingston Civitan in the early 1970’s. Garry, Judy and family enjoyed many hours at their cottage and later turn the cottage into their current home. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Friends may pay their respects at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a service to celebrate his life in the Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada.
