Obituary of Dave Sanderson

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Dave Sanderson announces his sudden peaceful passing at the age of 78, after satisfying his craving for a yummy meal with his special sister/brother in law (Barb and Roger) and an evening of favourite sports watching and texting with family and friends.

With fond memories of growing up with a passel of 16 Sanderson and Relic cousins, Dave’s greatest quality was his sense of humour—always quick with a quip, a story, or a song to make others smile.  He was a cherished husband and best friend for 52 wonderful years to his beloved Sue - “Principessa Red,” with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter, love, and adventure. He was the proud father of Jeff (Piper) and Jen (Morgan), and the devoted “Grandpa/Bopper” to Jack, Sam, and Roswell, who adored his playful spirit and joyful presence.

Dave was predeceased by his loving dad Don, his “Ma” Ann, his brother Sandy, his father-in-law Jack, and his mother-in-law Lyla D, with whom he shared a special bond.

A true character, Dave believed “a chip without a dip is like a kiss without a moustache”—a saying from his moustache-wearing days that summed up his playful, offbeat charm. Dave was a lifelong sports fan, a marketing whiz, and a crowd favourite with his legendary outfits, storytelling, and impromptu singing at birthdays and special gatherings. He was always a great sport with the large Beatty clan, where he gained four sisters and a brother, their spouses, ten nieces and nephews, and fifteen (and counting!) great-nieces and nephews, each of whom loved his wit, warmth and spontaneity.

To know Dave was to laugh, to feel welcomed, and to be reminded not to take life too seriously. His humour, generosity, and love will be deeply missed and forever treasured. We love you, we miss you already, and we’ll carry your laughter with us always.

There will be a private Celebration of Dave's Life to take place at a later date.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation, Diabetes Canada or the Ottawa Heart Institute
