Jones, Rev. Dr. (Bill) William Herbert
Born February 25th, 1931 in Toronto, died October 12th, 2025 (Thanksgiving Sunday) in Perth, Ontario.
Bill was a pastor among the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, who served congregations in Toronto, Waterloo, Fort William, Ottawa, Oshawa (all in Ontario), and who also served as editor/manager of The Canadian Baptist magazine.
After retiring, he was a locum (interim) pastor of congregations in Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph and four congregations in Toronto. He studied at Humberside Collegiate, McMaster University and Divinity College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Sioux Falls Baptist Seminary, Atlantic Coast Seminary, Humber College, Conrad Grebel College, Ithaca College.
Bill was an advisor to the Religious Advisory Committee of CTV for 29 years, broadcasting and writing several television series. He also assisted the CBC Religious Advisory Committee for 10 years. His books included The Christian Invasion of Europe, The Wellness of Saint Paul, and Jewish Ritual Washing and Christian Baptism–Evolution or Revolution? He was an avid, prize-winning photographer.
Bill was married to Glee Upshall for 61 years. They raised three sons, Llewellyn Mark (Susan), David Andrew Victor (Saadia) and Steven Herbert Owen (AI Siok). Their expanded family included seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
Bill’s Celebration of Life will take place at Kanata Baptist Church, 465 Hazeldean Road, Kanata (Ottawa) K2L 1V1, Ontario on November 21 at 11:00 a.m.
