Dane was one of the first friends I ever had. I have fond memories of us playing and growing together with friends and family.
Whether it was sharing a room in college, sharing a controller or sharing a laugh throughout the years, I’m grateful for all the ways we connected, both big and small.
I will treasure and share the memories of our times together as friends.
I know those of us he shared his time and his kindness and his smile with will miss him dearly.
Goodbye Dane, thank you for being my friend.

It’s hard to even find the words to say goodbye, or to ease the weight of this loss for Dane’s family and friends. He was such an important part of my life, and I hope I played even a fraction of that role in his.
Dane lived—fully, fiercely, and without apology—even though he always reminded me that his time here might be shorter than most (a fact he brought up so often it drove me absolutely nuts). He was authentic in a way few people ever are, and he connected deeply with the people he loved. I’m so lucky to have been one of them.
Even though I haven’t been part of his daily life for many years, I know he built incredible, meaningful connections in that chapter of his life, and I’m grateful beyond words that he had those people around him.
I love you, Dane. Safe travels. And you’d better haunt me—otherwise I’ll miss you far too much.

Dane was a bright light, and I have many good memories from our youth. One stands out- when he was at SickKids for a surgery and we spent many hours sending faxes back and forth from the ‘office’ at Kiwi. :) Lots of love to you Anne. May you be wrapped in love throughout this journey with grief.

Dear Anne: What a beautiful photo of your son. Although I haven't seen him since he was a child, I can see what a wonderful spirit he possessed. I imagine he was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Much love and heaps of blessings to you and Dane's Dad.

Anne and Roger. I was shocked and saddened to hear about Dane passing so unexpectedly. My heart breaks for him and for you. I didn't have many opportunities to run into Dane but some years ago he did a photography session with our beloved dog, Spica. Dane spent much time and care to capture many wonderful candid shots. We lost Spike too soon but we treasure the beautiful portrait that Dane created.of our dog splashing through shimmering drops of water. I will always be thankful for the gift of Dane's sensitivity to dogs and his photography skills.

My conversations with Dane were never trivial or superficial. He had a depth of compassion that came from someone who was no stranger to suffering. Yet there was an ineffable lightness to Dane. It lit up a room with that million dollar smile and the crinkle around his eyes. And he was always so kind and gentle. I will cherish those conversations always.

Dane my heart…
At different times you were my lover, my parent, my child, my teacher, my student, my playmate, my soulmate and ultimately, my best friend. I miss you so much. You brought enormous joy and healing to my life. Thank God I believe you are not over, and that we are not done our connection, or this might be more than I could bare.
But you continue, brighter than ever.
I am loving you so fervently still, and loving your family and friends who loved you too in this sacred but so difficult time.
Shine on my love.

Anne and family, I am so sorry your loss. I used to have some great conversations/laughs with Dane when I worked at Foodsmiths and he would come through my cash. He always greeted me with a warm smile and a hello and was always ready for a chat! I ran into him last summer and even though it had been a few years, he still had the same warm smile/hello for me, and we talked and got caught up. Truly, a genuinely caring person. My condolences to you all.

I am at a loss for words. I just seen this. I also worked with Dane at Lanark Lodge in the kitchen. When Dane was on my shift you always knew it was going to be a great day with lots of laughs. He tried many times to talk to me about is snakes, but there was no way I would listen to that. My deepest condolences for your loss. Dane was a great man!!
