Obituary of Donald Edward Graves

It is with heartfelt respect that the passing of Donald “Don” Graves on November 11, 2025 is acknowledged.

Born to the late Herbert L. Graves and Dorothy M. Graves, and lovingly raised also by his stepmother, the late Audry Graves, Don built a life defined by dedication, curiosity, and an unwavering passion for military history—his greatest hobby, and truly the work he lived and loved.

Don is survived by his son Matt Graves, his sister, Pat Van Nest (Brian Van Nest), his nieces, Jessica Mason and Stephanie Cabanas, his nephew, Justin Van Nest, and his previous stepchildren, Will and Erica Greaves. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many, many friends and colleagues both here and abroad. He is predeceased by his wife Dianne Graves, his brother Paul Graves, and his nephew Koren Sinnock.

Serious-minded with a famously dry sense of humour, Don surprised many with his secret enjoyment of Monty Python’s irreverent wit. Those who knew him will remember a brilliant mind, a loyal friend, and a man whose quiet presence carried great depth.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory would be appreciated to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. Arrangments entrusted to the Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth.
