Obituary of Dorothy O'Brien

Dorothy passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was the proud mother of Diana (Ron) and Karen (Trent). Dorothy was the beloved partner and companion to the late Stuart Laird. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Sylvia Burton. Dorothy is also predeceased by her parents, Eva and Herbert Burton, and by sister, Diane Burton.

Dorothy was born in Kenora, Ontario (commonly being reffered to as Dolly Burton) and moved to Toronto in 1954 to join Trans Canada Airlines as a flight attendant.

Dorothy will be remembered for the love she had for her home and life on Mississippi Lake for over 40 years, for feeding the wild birds, her grand-doggies, and her trips to the casino.

Her daughters would like to thank the staff from Aspira Carolina Suites, the Care Partners and the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital – Perth Site staff that took such gentle care of Dorothy. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Majewski from Queensway Carleton Hospital for his compassionate care and kindness.

As per Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family in memory of Dorothy.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Blair and Son Funeral Home, Perth.
