Obituary of Hubert Malcolm McRae
It is with deep sadness that the family of Hubert Malcolm McRae announces his passing at the age of 65. Known to everyone simply as Malcolm, he was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario, and lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Malcolm was a man of many skills and passions. Early in life, he worked as a millwright, a trade that reflected his strong work ethic, and practical ingenuity. Later, he followed another calling as a chef, bringing creativity, care, and generosity into the kitchen — qualities that mirrored the way he lived his life. No matter the role, Malcolm took pride in doing things well and giving his best.
He was kind, stubborn in the way only strong people are, hardworking, loyal, and deeply generous. Those who knew him best understood that beneath his quiet determination was a man who would do anything for the people he loved.
Above all else, family was Malcolm’s world. He was the devoted husband of Donna, the love of his life and anchor. He was a proud father to his sons Ian, and Josh, and he found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Kenzey and Keira, children of Ian; and LilyAnne, Abigail, and AvaLynn, daughters of Josh and his wife Jen. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and time spent with them was what he cherished most.
Malcolm’s legacy lives on in the values he passed down — hard work, loyalty, generosity, and the importance of showing up for family. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his quiet strength, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
He will be joined by his family in heaven. His parents Alexander and Marie McRae. His siblings: Jim, Ron, Bob, Beth McRae, and Sharon Marshall. Anyone who knew him and passed before him will be waiting with open arms. He is deeply missed by his wife Donna (nee Sargent) McRae. Sons Ian, Josh McRae, their family, and Malcolm’s siblings Catherine (Bruce) Scott, Karen (Ed) Nagle, Nancy (Stephen) Popek, Cynthia Barr (Steve Walford-Davis). As well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless friends and family who were close to him.
Being around him made us better people.
