Obituary of Gordon Thomas Closs

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Closs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.  Gordon passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026 in his 89th year.

Gordon was well known and respected in his community for his devotion to youth sports. He was a founding member of Lanark Minor Hockey where he spent many hours coaching and officiating. Summers were spent on the ball diamond as a player, coach or umpire. He was a founding member of the Lanark Fish & Game Club, and a member of the North Lanark Trappers Council. An avid hunter and trapper, he was always happiest being outdoors. He was also a lifetime member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge. In later years, he loved to golf and was a founding member of Men’s Night at the Timber Run Golf Course.

Beloved husband of Kay Closs; loved father of Terry, Brian (Melanie) Carey and Ron Closs; cherished grandfather of Jenn (Brad) and great grandfather of Cassia (Jaden) and Nadan. Survived by his dear sisters Peggy (Dan) Barr and Leola (Dan) Majore. Predeceased by his first wife Nada (Sproule), his parents Jack and Winnie Closs, his brothers Carl (Sharon) and Buddy (Marie) Closs. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore Street West, Perth on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. A service will be held in the Blair & Son chapel on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. In honour of Gordon, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Society of Lanark, Leeds & Grenville or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
