Obituary of Ronald Frederick Comrie
We are sad to announce the passing of our father, Ronald Frederick Comrie on March 5th, 2026 at age 95. He passed peacefully in the Smiths Falls Hospital with family at his side.
Ron was born in Calgary, AB and raised in Ottawa, ON where he met and married his wife Beth in 1953. For the first years of their marriage, they lived in and around the Ottawa area while Ron worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for various companies. In 1969, he found a house and business for sale in Otonabee Township, and moved his young family to Peterborough where he owned and operated Comrie’s Esso for a number of years. After Beth’s retirement in 1995, they moved to Young’s Point and then to the village of Lakefield, ON.
Throughout his life, Ron was very social and always involved in his communities. He was an active member of the Keene Lions Club, an enthusiastic member of various church choirs, and a volunteer at the Selwyn Public Library in Lakefield. An ardent hockey fan, he also played Old Timer’s recreational hockey for years up until he was 70.
Throughout his life he was met with many challenges and faced them all with his trademark stoicism instilled by his British-born parents. Always quick with a pun or a clever quip, Dad was well known for his charming smile and his irrepressible wit and when you saw the sparkle in his eye, you knew something was afoot. A dedicated and principled family man, Ron led, loved, and cared by example.
He is predeceased by his wife Beth and survived by his three children Rick (Diana), Lynne (Karen) and Kirk (Ashley), his grandchildren Eric (Stephanie), Kaitlin (Alex), Michele (Chris) and Clayton as well as his 4 great grandchildren.
As per their wishes, a memorial service will be held for Ron and Beth in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
