Sweeney, Lilias Marguerite (nee Reid)
It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the passing of Lilias Marguerite Sweeney on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 at the age of 86. She was the beloved wife of Percy Sweeney for more than 68 years. Loving mother of Susan (late Wendell) Crosbie; Sandra Brown (Herb); late Terry (Norma Brownlee); Sharon (Steve) Bothwell; Jimmy (Mary Anne); and David (Allison). Loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her twin sister Lila (late Bill) Darou, sisters-in-law, Sue Reid and Mary Lou Reid. Her brother-in-law Norman (Lillian) Sweeney; Patricia (late Don) Brownlee, Rayburn (Wilma) Sweeney, June (Bob Stewart) McDermid and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Nellie and John Reid, siblings Dorothy (Earl) Stead, Elmer (Florence), Helen (Ross) Campbell and Robert. Vernon (Mae) Sweeney; Eric (Eleanor) Sweeney; Ronald Sweeney; Rose (Frank) Greer.
Lilias enjoyed baking and sharing her desserts with family, friends and close neighbours. She also spent many hours preserving and canning her many rewards from her garden.
A celebration of Lilias’ life will be held at the Lanark & District Civitan Club, 2144 Pine Grove Road, Lanark on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. In her memory, donations to the University of Ottawa – Heart Institute would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth.
