Obituary of James Anthony Courville

James Anthony Courville passed away at his home on May 7, 2026 after many years of health issues, leaving a life that was filled with pain, joy and the love of many.

In Ottawa on February 24, 1967, Jacques and Carol Courville welcomed their first of four sons James, whom arrived very early and spent a long time in the hospital. James had complications that he never let affect him growing up, including partial deafness, as he learned to play instruments, including his beloved guitar by ear.

Working out for many years, James grew to love the sport of arm wrestling, and honed his craft to becoming a champion many times over. Arm wrestling and music gave him many friends and bandmates that he loved dearly.

James worked locally alongside his father with Lavigne Transport, Stanley Tools and Glenview Iron & Metal until he could not, due to injury.

James fell in love and got married, but they separated soon afterwards, as they weren’t meant to be. His fiancee, Wendy, was truly the love of his life, as they cherished each other since adulthood.

James was predeceased by his parents Jacques and Carol and a younger brother Andre. He is survived by his brothers Kevin and Jason, his Uncle Mark whom he’s always confided in, nieces and nephews, and his beautiful pup Teddy who never left his side.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a funeral service to honour James’ life, Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Blair & Son Smiths Falls Chapel, 112 Beckwith Street North. Memorial donations may be made to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society.
