Obituary of Peter Robert Sabiston
Peter Robert Sabiston
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Peter Robert Sabiston on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026. Peter passed away peacefully in the early morning hours, surrounded by the family who meant the world to him.
Born on July 12th, 1949, in Perth, Ontario, Peter built a life rooted for the love of his family. He was a guiding light, a steady hand, and a source of unconditional love. His strength, wisdom, and quiet sacrifices shaped the lives of those who were fortunate enough to call him a Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He taught us how to live with integrity, kindness, and compassion.
Peter was a hard-working and respected entrepreneur. Alongside his wife, Amelia he ran a successful small business in Barrhaven for 29 years. Through his work, he became a familiar and friendly face in the community, building a network of acquaintances and friends who valued his down-to-earth nature and honest and respectful spirit.
Peter truly understood the value of making time for fun and finding joy in the simple moments. In his youth, he chased excitement in many ways, such as riding horses, waterskiing, riding motorcycles and racing cars. He also found his rhythm behind the drumset when he played in a band called “The Woolies”. Peter was happiest when he was on the water and cherished his spare time at the family cottage. He also enjoyed the family’s annual visits to Nassau, Bahamas creating a lifetime of sunny memories and traditions that our family will forever hold dear.
Peter is lovingly remembered by his spouse Amelia Sabiston, his children Taunia Sabiston (Tyler Collister) and Mandy Sabiston (Cameron Pelton), his grandchildren, Tyler Meireles, Ava Pelton, Marlow Pelton, Lucas Meireles and his sister Cynthia Scott, who will carry his memory in their hearts every day.
Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he taught and the love he gave will remain with us always. We will miss his laughter, and the quiet reassurance that he was always there. But we take comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in each of us.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and medical staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and their Cancer Centre for the dedicated care Peter received since 2014. We also wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the amazing palliative team at St. Vincent Hospital. Their care, kindness and compassion from the doctors and nurses to the volunteers and care staff, guided us all through a very difficult time. Their support was a gift to our entire family.
Visitation: Kelly’s Funeral Home 3000 Woodroffe Ave in Barrhaven on Wednesday, May 6th from 6pm to 9pm and Thursday, May 7th from 9:30am to 11:00am.
Service begins at 11:00am with a Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Centre at the Ottawa General Hospital and/or St. Vincent Hospital Palliative Care Unit in his memory.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
