Obituary of Garry Christopher Hanneman
Garry Hanneman
March 21st, 1997 - May 15th, 2026
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Garry Hanneman on May 15th, 2026 at 29 years old. Garry leaves behind his adoring wife, high school sweetheart, best friend and soul mate, Avori Purdy. She never left his side in his times of need. Garry, beloved son of Christopher and Danette Hanneman, loved him beyond measure. Garry was cherished by his siblings Sam (Danielle), Ivy (Robert) and Greta. Garry was a best friend to Joey Beiglee and Pat Charlebois. He was loved by his nana, Edie Ivy, his nana-in-law, Joyce Smith and family friend, Paul Kennedy. Garry was a beloved brother-in-law to Holli Moore (Matt), Zoe Purdy (Sam) and Aidan Purdy (Victoria). He was a dear son-in-law to Suzanne Winlove-Smith and Mark Purdy (Michelle) who loved him as their own. He will be missed by his buddy Ethan, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Garry was an adoring uncle to his nephew, Roy, who he knew was a special boy. He was treasured by his nieces and nephew, Lena, Lainey and Leo, who always made him the best cards and brought out his inner child. He will forever be their uncle. Garry was predeceased by his grandparents Lorna and Gareth Hanneman (his namesake), and his papa, Clarence Ivy, whom he loved with all his heart.
Garry’s life was an adventure with a soundtrack to match. He loved hard and was fiercely loyal. From Leonard Cohen to Death Grips and everything in between, music was his greatest passion. He used music to share his love with others. From a young age, he had an infectious enthusiasm for learning about culture and the world, travelling to over 40 countries in his 29 years. He had an artist's mind and spirit. With his heart on his sleeve, he was unabashedly himself and never missed an opportunity to tell his friends and family that he loved them. May his soul rest where there is love and music.
Garry had two open heart surgeries. The first was at age 16 at CHEO and the second at age 28 at the Kingston General Hospital. Donations can please be sent to these organizations in his honour.
Family and friends are invited to Garry’s Celebration of Life on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a sharing of memories at 2:30 p.m.
“What a beautiful face I have found at this place
that is circling all ‘round the sun.
And when we meet on a cloud, I’ll be laughing out loud
I’ll be laughing with everyone I see
Can’t believe
How strange it is to be anything at all”
- Neutral Milk Hotel
“This is the time and life that I am living
And I’ll face each day with a smile
For the time that I’ve been given’s such a little while”
- Love
