Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Killeen
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Killeen at her home in Lanark on May 17, 2026, at the age of 77. Joan was born on February 8, 1949, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Nora (Cameron) Charron.
Beloved wife and best friend of Terry Killeen. Cherished and very proud mother of Tammy (Greg) Rintoul and Patrick (Christine Murphy) Killeen, and of Val, who was loved like a son. Joan’s granddaughters, Rikki (John Duncan) and Kacie (Andrew Musclow) Rintoul, brought her tremendous joy.
Joan was predeceased by her siblings Gary and Judy Charron and is survived by her brother Dan Charron. She was the sister-in-law of the late Phyllis Herbert, the late Mary (the late Andre) Yelle, the late Raymond (the late Marcelle), the late Ken (Gladys), Leonard (Denise), Bill (the late Mary), Michael (Linda) Herbert, Lorraine Killeen, and Pierrette Girard-Charron. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Joan married Terry on April 18, 1970, and together they built a wonderful life and family. They spent several years living in the Osgoode and Greely area before settling in Lanark in 1980. There, Joan and Terry built the successful family business, Lanark Meats, as well as a motocross track that became a well-known gathering place within the community.
If you knew Joan, you knew the kitchen was the heart of her home, where life happened; birthdays, holidays and everyday moments were shared. No one ever left hungry or without a hug. Joan loved gardening, thrift shopping, bird watching, time at the pond, special time spent at the cottage on Dalhousie Lake, fishing in her younger years and her Sunday morning golden oldies. She loved her cats and outdoor wild animals that often ended up with names. Her legacy will be present always in family meals, gardening, stories over a cup of tea around the kitchen table, and every hug shared with the people we love.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Joan at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward at the Lanark Civitan Hall for a reception and time of fellowship as they honour and remember a beautiful life well lived. Those unable to attend the Funeral Mass are warmly welcome to join the family at the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
