Obituary of Elizabeth Barr (nee Schnobb)
Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the age of 85. She was the beloved wife of the late Vernon Barr, who predeceased her on February 9, 2023.
Elizabeth was a devoted mother to Christine Hendry (Paul) and Robert Barr (Kimberley Kruschinske). She was a cherished Granny to Cory Hendry (Sasha Coote), Jessica Wold (Dave), and Sarah Gover (Christopher), and a proud great-grandmother to Wesley, Kordell, Johnathan, Lydia, Tyson, Winston and Rowan.
Born to Isaac Schnobb and Jean-Marie Schnobb, Elizabeth was predeceased by her siblings Leo Beaulieu (Inez), Andy Beaulieu (Bonnie), Jeanine Cacciotti (Gino), and Irene Sampson (Roy). She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Ronald Barr (Shirley) and sister-in-law Norma Bednas (Marvin). She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Yvonne Schnobb and her brother-in-law Richard Barr (late Dianne).
Elizabeth was a dear godmother to Tracey Sampson (Annie Martineau), Michael Beaulieu, Paul Langlois, and Steven Bednas. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Elizabeth spent many years working at Steinberg’s, where she served in the deli department and later as a manager. Above all else, Elizabeth treasured her family. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy.
She cherished time spent at the family cottage and at their home in Arden, where she enjoyed swimming, fishing, gardening, sitting around the campfire sharing stories, enjoying good food, and listening and dancing to country music. The simple moments spent with those she loved meant the most to her.
Later in life, Elizabeth and Vern welcomed their first dog, Koda, into their lives and quickly fell in love. Koda became a cherished companion and a source of great joy. Her fondness for lavender leaves those who knew her with a beautiful scent by which to remember her.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Bonnechere Manor for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.
A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.
In memory of Elizabeth, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Respirology Division of The Ottawa Hospital.
