Obituary of Lorna Joanne Offord

LORNA J. OFFORD (nee PLAYFAIR)

Lorna Joanne Offord (nee Playfair) peacefully passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at the Killam Hospital in Killam, Alberta. Lorna was the loving wife of the late Kenneth S. Offord and after Ken’s passing a very special friend to the late Blaine Copeland.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, on February 28, 1944, to the late Robert and Edith Playfair.  Lorna grew up in the Village of Lanark, where she attended school, moving on to High School in Perth, followed by Queens University where she received her degree.

Lorna started her teaching career in Bentley, Alberta, where she met and married Ken. They subsequently moved to Sedgewick where she taught High School French and German. Almost every summer they traveled back east to spend time with family, take courses or RV travel with family and friends.

Lorna will be missed and is survived by her son, Marc Joffe of British Columbia, with whom she had a precious relationship, her brother Robert W.R. (Dale) Playfair, Lanark, her brother-in-law Len (Lynne) Offord, Edmonton, sister-in-law Rilla Offord, Edmonton, cousins Jay (the late Elaine) Playfair, Grace (Neil) Horne, niece Jennifer (Rod) Cavanagh, nephew Robert K. J. Playfair, and out west nieces and nephews, Kerri Offord and Shannon Offord, Kevin Offord, Tamara Offord and predeceased by nephew, the late Trevor Offord.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Playfair Historic Church in Playfairville on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Bruce North to officiate. This will co-ordinate with a service being held at the same time in Sedgewick United Church, Sedgewick, Alberta, Susan MacKinnon to officiate.
