Obituary of Michael Todd Frederick Machan
It is with deep sadness the family of Michael mourn his passing at the Ottawa General Hospital on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the age of 61. Loving and devoted brother of Stuart (Anne) Machan, Peter Machan, Susan (Stephen) Lucas, Ruth (Tony) Vanderlaan, Treena Machan, Andrew (Kim) Machan, and Amy Machan and his dear friend Graham Sher. Predeceased by his loving parents Charles Stuart Machan and Jessie Mildred Acheson, and his brother Stephen Charles Machan. He will be fondly remembered by several nephews and nieces, extended family and friends. Michael will be deeply missed by his loyal four-legged companions Seamus, Vincent and Victor.
After years of working in the banking industry, Michael found his passion in his second career as a psychotherapist. He made significant contributions to mental health and brought his caring nature to his own private practice in Renfrew. Throughout his work, Michael was able to touch the life of many people. He achieved over 23 years as a “friend of Bill”.
The irony of Michael’s life journey ending during Pride month is not lost on us. He was a proud and supportive member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Michael’s heart belonged to Opal Stock Farm, which he established in 2021. He took immense pride in the land he cared for and his beloved Limousin cattle, whose breeding and stewardship re-elected the patience, dedication, and quiet determination that defined his life. The farm was not simply where he lived; it was an extension of his character–strong, dependable, and enduring.
Michael’s life touched many people coast to coast, and his memory will live on in the farm he built, the cattle he loved, the dogs he adored- and in the hearts of those who shared in his journey. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
