Obituary of Shirley Edith Ring

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Barrie Manor on June 15th , 2026, at the age of 75. 

​Born in Ottawa to the late David and Marjorie Wood (Simmons) and became a proud lifelong resident of the town of Smiths Falls. Shirley grew up with a deep love for books and community. She graduated from local schools before dedicating over 31 years of her life to assisting those with developmental needs at the Rideau Regional. 

​Shirley was a devoted mother of Jordan (Laurie) and Kaitlin (Justin Randall) and the cherished grandmother of Logan, Arya, Penelope and Elijah. She is predeceased by her late brother Tom Wood (survived by his spouse Janice). She is also survived by her dear siblings, William Wood and Helen Desjardine (Don) and many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.

​Known for her dedication to her church and her community, Shirley brought joy and warmth to everyone who knew her. She was a dedicated volunteer at the SFDCI library, the Smiths Falls Food Bank, and A Girl Guides of Canada Leader. She was always ready to offer a helping hand or a comforting word.

Shirley was a mother who always put her children first before herself and was selfless to ensure their success in life. Shirley's values and the cherished memories that were made will live on through her children and grandchildren, who will all miss her very much!

​The family will receive friends at Blair and Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Saturday June 20th, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at Cavalry Bible Church Saturday, June 20th at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place at Maple Vale Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Calvary Bible Church Hall.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
