Obituary of Marjorie June Holmes
MARJORIE JUNE HOLMES (née Fach)
March 9, 1928 – July 1, 2026
With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Marjorie June Holmes (née Fach), who passed away peacefully at the Smiths Falls Hospital on July 1, 2026, at the age of 98.
Marjorie was born on March 9, 1928, in Galt, Ontario. She shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, A. Thomas Holmes, until his passing in 2011. Together they built a loving home and a family that remained the centre of her life.
As the wife of a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, Marjorie embraced the adventure of military life, living in Nova Scotia before returning to Cambridge. Later, she made her home in Tweed and eventually settled in the Smiths Falls and Perth area, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Marjorie was a devoted mother to Tom Holmes, Cheryl Arthur (Jamie), Randall Holmes, and Cindy Rogers (Rick Hansen), who was predeceased by her beloved spouse, John A. Rogers, the father of her children.
She was an incredibly proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren, great-grandmother to 34 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandmother to 7 great-great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family and watching it continue to grow through the generations. Her greatest accomplishment and proudest role in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert Fach and Jerome Fach. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, A. Thomas Holmes; her sister, Carol “Tootsie” Flynn; and her brother, Wilbur “ZiB” Fach.
Marjorie will be remembered for her kindness, warm smile, gentle spirit, wonderful sense of humour, and unwavering love for her family. She found great happiness in music, square dancing, baking, visiting yard sales, and sharing time with those she loved.
A talented and passionate rug hooker for more than 40 years, Marjorie was a founding member of the Perth Rug Hooking Group and a lifelong member of the Burritts Rapids “Boots and Baskets” Rug Hooking Group. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society. She was always eager to share her knowledge, creativity, and encouragement with others. Throughout her life she also worked as a homemaker and hairdresser, touching many lives with her caring nature and generous heart.
Those who knew Marjorie will remember that she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether she was sharing a cup of tea, serving one of her homemade baked treats, laughing with friends, or helping someone learn the art of rug hooking, she gave freely of her time, her talents, and her heart. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and acceptance, and the friendships she built over the years were a testament to the genuine kindness she showed to everyone she met.
In her final years, Marjorie faced the challenges of memory loss and dementia with quiet strength. Although those illnesses gradually changed many things, they never diminished the love she held for her family or the love they held for her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Smiths Falls Hospital for the compassionate care they provided during her final days.
A celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held at a later date.
Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, creativity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
