Obituary of Richard Douglas Atkinson

The family of Richard Douglas Atkinson is saddened to announce his passing on Aug 15, 2026. Richard was born in Blenheim Ontario on October 17 1934 to Gladys Burke and Douglas Atkinson. He is predeceased by his brothers Donald and Jack, and by his sister Ruth.  

Richard was husband to the late Rhoda (nee Holmes) for almost 50 years and was a wonderful father to John (Mary Anne), Jann (Peter), and Elaine (Keith). He will be missed by his six grandchildren Robert (Kim), David (Chelsea), Katherine, Andrew (Emily), Cass (Kaitlyn), and Stuart (Cynthia) and his two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. He was a dear friend to Margaret Elliott for the past 18 years.  

Richard retired in 1992 after a 40 year career with Bell Canada which saw him work in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Belleville, as well as on the Mid Canada Radar Line in northern Canada in the 1950s . He was an avid Radio Amateur for most of his life with call signs VE3JBO and VE3RDA. He was also a man who loved to build and repair all things electronic and electrical and was often helping friends and neighbours in town and at his Otty Lake cottage. 

A private interment will be held in the near future, with details to be confirmed.
