Obituary of Evelyn Ruth Kerr

Evelyn Ruth Kerr was born June 6, 1924, in Toronto, Ontario to her parents Percy and Olive Clark. She entered the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on February 17, 2024. Evelyn grew up in Toronto and graduated from Etobicoke Collegiate Institute.

In her early 20`s, she met the love of her life, Archibald (“Archie”) Kerr, on a train. Shortly after, she announced to her parents, that she was moving to Montreal and taking a job with a stock brokerage firm. Archie was in medical school at McGill University and after a couple years, they were married in Toronto. After Archie completed his internship in Toronto, they moved to Smiths Falls, where Archie set up his medical office and practiced almost sixty years. All of her sons and five grandsons became doctors/specialists, and her daughter became a nursing professor.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Archie in 2008 as well as her youngest son Clark in 2013. She is survived by her children Bill Kerr and wife Carol, Patricia Harlow and husband Phil and Tom Kerr and wife Carol. Evelyn is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and forty-nine great grandchildren. All the grandchildren knew her as Nana and were schooled by her in proper grammar, posture and manners. She is also survived by her brother Jim and wife Shelva. Her sister Frances Burke, her best friend, and husband Don are deceased.

Evelyn loved fashion, decorating and was known for her large glamorous hats.  She was a woman of many talents including piano, painting and poetry. She loved reading biographies and autobiographies. One of her favorite pastimes was knitting items with very complex patterns.

Evelyn was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and believed that the greatest heritage she could give her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the saving grace that only Christ can give.

One of her more recent fond memories was her ninety-fifth birthday party attended by most of her extended family. Unfortunately, shortly after the event she fell, and her final days were lived out at Lanark Lifestyles Residence in Perth. She never complained about having to leave her home. Her family greatly appreciates the care given to her by the staff and particularly Lillian Burns Bowes for her love and advocacy for Evelyn since her family lives in Michigan, Florida and Texas. She will be greatly missed by family and those that knew her.

Evelyn's funeral ceremony will be held at Rideau Christian Fellowship 8 Craig St., Perth on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
