Jim was a kind and caring man. His concern for others and his happy spirit made it easy to take for granted all that he did for the Oddities Choir. We sure did appreciate him and it is with great sadness that this notice was read. My heart goes out to you, Debby, and to his family.

guitar
Seeing the photo of Jimmy with a guitar reminded me of his father trying to teach me to play it on trips to Arnprior and Calabogie. It is a sad thing to grow old but there are always good memories to make you feel young again. I remember playing with Jimmy with our electric trains sets. Mr.Chabot, we always called someones parents Mr. or Mrs., were one of the few that had a tv and an outside antenna, so I would be over often to watch american tv with Jimmy.
I grieve with the family

Sing-a-longs were the best!
How I enjoyed the sing-a-longs in Ottawa! I have very wonderful memories of all the visits with Jim and little Jennifer and little Justin at their Ottawa home. Jim was always calm, sweet and fun. I last saw Jim at the wedding of Jennifer and Oliver. Jim hadn't changed a bit. He was clearly very happy to have Deborah in his life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Life Long Friend
I've known Jimmy for about 64 years. We met,as toddlers at Place Viger, home to our families for a short period of time before all moving to Montreal North. We grew up as best buddies. When Jim's family moved to Terrebonne I was a frequent weekend guest at their home.We continued to see each other regularly until Jim's career brought him to Ottawa. We have always remained in touch.
Jim was like a brother to me. He was very kind and understanding. We shared many happy times together. I will miss him dearly.

Memories of Jim
Jim and I had a lot in common. We were brothers-in-law, we were the same age, and we shared a love for classic country music. Jim really enjoyed playing his guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and just about everything else. Our jam sessions in Jim and Debby’s living room were always one of the highlights of our summer visits. Jim was a master at setting everything up. He’d make the phone calls, send the emails and put the "refreshments” on ice. He’d set up the music stands, photocopy lyrics and chords, and even tune the guitars. Hank Williams and Johnny Cash never had it so good! We’d carry on until our voices were gone and our fingers were sore. The quality of the music might have been debatable, but the company and the camaraderie were the best there’s ever been.
Jim was also a passionate supporter of the Stewart Park Music Festival in Perth. He always loved to go to the after-hours venues as well as to the festival itself. In fact, both he and Debby performed there a few years ago with their local choir. During last summer’s festival, Jim couldn’t get out very much, but he really wanted to go. Debby agreed to drop us off and pick us up, so he and I packed our lawn chairs and water bottles (it was hot!). Jim knew that a couple of hours was the limit, so he’d done his research and knew the schedule. He also knew exactly how to find a shady spot with a perfect view of the main stage. It was a wonderful afternoon in Stewart Park, and I think that each of us knew that this was as good as it was going to get.
Music was only one part of Jim’s life, but it was where we connected. Take care, Jim, and keep your guitar tuned.
PS – If you’d like to experience a bit of what made that afternoon in Stewart Park so special, try the link below. This is a different version of the song but the same performers, so you’ll have to imagine the sun, the grass, the trees, the river and the main stage. You could have heard a pin drop, and when the song was over there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Good Neighbour
Jim was always out walking and enjoying nature. I remember him and Deb the first day they moved in across the street from us. They came over and said Hi we are Deb Hill and Jim Chabot. I went in and got Ken and we chatted for a bit. I will miss the talks with Jim, however Deb we can still talk anytime.
My deepest condolences Deb and to your family. Jim is in a good place now and will always be watching over us all.
Another angel to keep us safe and keep our spirits up.

Fellow bass
I thoroughly enjoyed singing bass with Jim in the choir, The Oddities, in Perth. We had a lot of fun with timing, low pitch, and being "expressive" without being wisecrackers.
Jim was a very strong leader in the group, a practical and generous influence. He was very encouraging to his peers.
We need more people like him.

Uncle Jim
For so long Jim seemed the picture of health, calm and balance, and I felt confident - as I'm sure others did - that he would beat cancer. When I think of Jim, I remember him with a gentle smile, in quiet conversation with one or another of our family members. He was a good man and an easy person to be around. Jim was great with kids - warm, fun and funny. While Jim's life was too short, he lived it so well. I remember him singing and playing guitar. I think of his excitement about travelling and about finding his dream home in Perth. He loved his wife, he loved his children and he loved his grandchildren. Jim's love for his family is the thing that stood out to me more than anything. As Jim did, I hope I can live so surrounded with love, and with such gladness for the simple pleasures of life.

Great Son
I remember Jim from coming to see Vera at Broadview. Jim always put a smile on Vera's face. He was a loving and proud son. His mom loved him dearly and always talked about her kids. So sorry for your loss I was shocked to see this. Sending thoughts and prayers to you through this difficult time and over the holiday season.
