Passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, February 11, 2013 following a courageous 9 year battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her mother Helen Read of Clearwater, FL; her beloved husband Tom; her children Donna, Melanie (John Oatway) and Matthew; her grandsons Jack, Mark, Nate, Sam and Benjamin as well as her brothers and sister. She will be sorely missed by all. The family thanks all of those who have supported us over the past months/years especially friends, family and health professionals. Pat’s leadership skills, understanding of people, sound judgment, graciousness, selfless and inspirational approach were applied to her nursing profession as well as her many community interests in Nepean and Smiths Falls over the past 35 years. She was recognized by the RNAO in 1997 for her contributions to health care; and in 2012 by the Town of Smiths Falls for her caring and tireless efforts for the community as well as her contributions to arts & culture. Pat’s endeavours in recent years included President of the District CFUW, the SF Community Theatre, SF Public Library, Trinity United Church, REAL and the walking concourse at the new SF Memorial Arena. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. There will be a time of reception and fellowship to follow to share in memories of Pat’s amazing life.
