Our hearts were sad as we heard of Mary's passing, but ever thankful to have known a rich friendship over 50 years. Our families enjoyed many special occasions together. A special event was a 5-week trip west in 94.
To sum up a beautiful friendship, I must say that Mary's life is her legacy. May may precious souls continue to hear the word of life and respond to God's touch in their lives. Much love to all. Aileen & family.

My Wonderful Mom
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Both Mom and Dad took really good care of us kids while we were growing up. I just happened to be the one who lived at home the longest. In fact, Mom used to say that her job wasn’t done until I was married. I’m sure she often wondered if that was EVER going to happen!! About 2 ½ years ago she got her wish. I’m so thankful that my wife Sharlene was able to meet her and spend time with her.
Mom had a big heart and she and Dad did their best to "raise us right”. Honesty was a quality that they both wanted their kids to have and we saw it in their lives. Mom looked after Dad and us kids really well. We didn’t always see eye to eye but in all she did, her selflessness was always there. The wants and needs of others were always more important to her than her own.
The most important thing in Mom’s life was her faith. It was evident in the amount of time she spent reading and studying the Bible and it was seen in her daily life. As a family we have seen that the Lord has honoured and blessed her commitment to Him. We are so thankful for the example she set for us.
We are also so thankful to the Lord that despite Mom’s Alzheimer’s, a disease that is known for sometimes changing people’s personalities for the worse, she remained the same kind, considerate, loving and thoughtful person that she’s always been. Alzheimer’s slowly moved her from being able to get around by herself, to needing a walker, and then a wheelchair. During these years, chronic bronchitis also set in. Each of these could have been reasons for getting irritable, getting "mad at the world” or at God, but she didn’t. She remained content and at peace.
She often had a smile and was always happy to return a cheerful "hello” to anyone who talked to her. She was even cheerful when it was time to take her medication, thanking the staff for it.
The staff and residents at Broadview who knew her all enjoyed her smile and her friendliness. I think she has probably been one of their more memorable residents.
It was a great comfort to Bonnie and I living on the other side of the globe, that she was so happy, so content, and well taken care of at Broadview.
She passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning, April 6th. We love you Mom and will miss you. Thanks for being such a godly example of who a wife and mother should be. Thanks for always doing your best to "raise us right”.

My Dear Mother
I am so grateful to God for the mother He gave me. The longer I live, the more I recognize and appreciate how blessed I have been to be the daughter of Mary Louise Charters Coker.
Both through her words and her actions, she taught me honesty, integrity, loyalty, faithfulness, service, thankfulness, compassion, and love for God and His Word. I will always treasure memories of long talks, of cooking or baking together, of words of affirmation for accomplishments, of the sight of her sitting in the living room reading her Bible or praying.
I’ll never forget her making me special meals the summer I decided to go on a diet, when I was in my teens. To complicate the matter further, my main meal often had to be at a different time than the rest of the family’s, so that I could get to work on time. And all in the days before microwave ovens!
She wasn’t perfect, and it may not surprise you that neither am I, so sometimes we clashed over our strongly-held opinions.
I really appreciate her having taken me to Sunday School and church as a child, and teaching me to pray. She and Dad both loved to sing. I guess it’s not surprising that we 3 kids also love music and singing.
Mum was a letter writer. I guess with her mum so far away in New Brunswick, she developed the habit early on. Even when I was only away for a week at church camp as a teen, she wrote me a letter, and urged Dad and Bryan to write, too! I have saved many of these (maybe even most or all of them!), and they are all the more precious now that she is gone.
But I’m confident that I’ll see both her and Dad again in Heaven, not because of our good deeds, but because of the grace of God who sent His Son Jesus to die in our place.

My Grandma
There are too many wonderful memories to share, but here are a few of my most vivid ones. I will never forget Grandma and Grandpa doing the dishes. I will never forget counting all of their vitamins for them (and The Lord knows how many there were. And grandma would take a whole handful at once! Even the gross little green alfalfa pills...). I will never forget playing cards with her. We did that EVERY time we were together and I thank her for my card playing skills. I will also NEVER forget being a little kid at the house in Huntsville, sleeping over. Whenever I would wake up she would make me a bed on the floor beside her, then reach down and rub or scratch my back and sing to me until I fell asleep. I am VERY blessed to have had 2 such amazing grandparents but I'm SO thankful that you're both together again in heaven and I can't wait to see you again! I will miss you more than words can say.
Love, your one and only granddaughter. Xoxox
