Obituary of Grace Elva Jehu
JEHU, Grace Elva
August 9, 1910 - April 7, 2013
Sparkling blue eyes and always ready for anything; a sunny disposition that could light up the darkest corners; warm, loving, caring, nurturing and always there when you needed her; completely devoted to her family, but kind, generous and giving to anyone who needed help; unselfish to the point of having no life of her own. In return she was idolized by all who knew her; although she never looked for more than love in return. That was our mom. Rhubarb custard pie, pineapple fried chicken; always something cooking on the stove; twenty-four hour diner service; a comforting and reassuring perspective when things looked darkest; solid as a rock; a beacon in a storm; never let you down. That was our mom. Now "that mighty heart is lying still". She's gone forever, but her love of life will continue to inspire all those who knew her. Although she always tried to prepare us for the inevitable, telling us not to be sad, it doesn't take away the pain. We'll miss her so much. Grace Elva Jehu, née Whitall, was born August 9th, 1910 in Montreal, died in Perth in her one hundred and third year. She'll be spending eternity in the Old Stone Church Cemetery in South Lancaster, Ontario beside her one and only "Kip", Robert Clifford Jehu, her childhood sweetheart who became her beloved husband; and her infant son for whom she grieved a lifetime. Grace is survived by her sons Robert (Connie) of Montreal, David (Bonnie) of McDonalds Corners, Stan (Peggy) of Watson's Corners. She is also survived by her grandchildren Stephen and Stephanie Jehu and Thomas Jehu, her great grandchild, Mina, her loved nieces and nephews, and by good friends Nancy McFetrick and family, and Robert (Nancy) Moore.
There will be a private graveside ceremony with immediate family. (There will be no service at Grace's request). Anyone wishing to make donations on her behalf can do so in her name to the Great War Memorial Hospital in Perth, Ontario or any Humane Society of your choice. We have nothing but praise and thanks for the wonderful Perth Community Care Centre staff as well as many of the residents who showed kindness towards mom. And we especially want to thank Dr. Peter Jechel for his kind care, understanding, and thoughtful advice. Finally, we would like to thank Stewart Blair for his sensitive and professional services.
Mom had a recurring dream as a child where she found herself surrounded by wild daisies in a sunlit glade. Perhaps she and dad are there now.
"Life is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."
