Obituary of Ronald Beacock
Beacock, Ronald
December 6, 1942 - April 13, 2013
In hospital in Perth with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer, Ron slipped away peacefully. A retired member of the Royal Canadian Navy, a driver for Gemmill bus lines, a Commissionaire, a driver for JED Freight, and a driver for Lanark Transportation. Ron's life was varied with the constant theme of helping others. He wrote an outdoors column for the EMC for many years, helped found the Rideau Valley Outdoors Club, led canoe trips with the Ottawa Y Canoe Club to Algonquin Park and many parks in Quebec and northern Ontario as well as hiking trips to Gros Morne in NFLD. He was an avid birder, contributing to the Breeding Bird Atlas of Ontario. Many families enjoy using outdoor furniture which was created at his shop, Rideaucrest Woodworks. He and wife, Sandra, owned two Pet Shops in Summerside and Charlottetown, PEI, called Water World. He’ll be sadly missed by his wife of 45 years, Sandra (Currie), his sons, Daniel and Tarl, his grandchildren Brittney, Willow, Alex and Zacch, his sister, Valerie (Albert) Chapleau of Cochrane, ON, and many friends. Many thanks to Dr. Alan Drummond, the wonderful nurses and support staff on the second floor of the GWM, the cancer treatment staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, St. James Anglican Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Scouting Community, CFUW Perth & District, the Cancer Society drivers, and especially Lanark Transportation Association. As per Ron’s wishes, private cremation has taken place, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Ron’s ashes will be scattered in Algonquin Park and other canoe routes and at sea. Please remember him in your own way- hoist a Budweiser, take a hike, volunteer to help others, donate to the Trans Canada Trail, Scouts Canada, CHEO or another charity of your choice.
