Ed was one of the nicest people I'd ever met. He always had a genuine smile on his face and I never once heard him say a bad thing against anyone or complain. When I started at Senstar, he went out of his way to make me feel welcome and was always genuinely interested in the people he worked with and their families. I know how strong his faith was and know that he's had "graduated" to a wonderful place. Deepest condolences to Ed's wife and family, they will be missing the presence of a great man in their lives. Bless you all.

I just woke up this morning July 2,2021 and for some unknown reason thought of my Physics teacher from London Central Collegiate in the 60’s. He was such a wonderful teacher and so kind. Such a pleasant personality. I was so sad that my search led me here. God Bless Him. My sincere condolences to the family.

A great co-worker and friend

I got to know Ed working at Senstar in Carp. He was a welcome smile, all the time. 14 years ago they aqquiered 2 kittens. But soon figured out that June was allergic to cats. Tom, Jean & I having just lost our cat were happy to take them. The black one was with us for a year or so, till one day it did not come back, but the grey tabby , Comet, is still with us today.

Once in a while a teacher enters your life...and your life is never the same. Mr. Kozlow was that person for me. Smart, funny, and unfailingly kind, he was and remains one of the best people I know - a person I wanted to grow up to be like. When we took his Physics classes in high school, I remember being awed by his ability to do complicated equations in his head. He didn't have to raise his voice or threaten us to gain our respect - we respected him because he respected us. I currently teach math, and I have mentioned Mr. Kozlow to all of my classes on numerous occasions as a teacher I admired greatly.

When we lost a classmate, I will always remember that after coming back from the funeral I thought we would have to sit through a physics class. He started to teach the lesson, paused as he looked out at our tear ravaged faces, closed the book, and instead spent the class talking about what we needed to talk about. Now, as a teacher who is very aware of the politics of death, I know what a courageous decision that was for him. As a student, all I knew was that we needed an adult to tell us it was going to be okay, and he was that adult for us.

He was my staff advisor for OSAID, and he not only listened to my hare-brained schemes, but backed them up 100% (even when I'm not really sure he thought he should ). Traveling with him, a police officer, and a few other student representatives to Toronto for the provincial OSAID conference was one of highlights of high school for me. I also have a vivid memory of us going to a school mass - he was seated across from me in the aisle, and when the choir sang, he sang - loudly and clearly. It seems like a little thing, but he was one of very few people singing in the auditorium, and it made a lasting impression. He was proud of his faith, he valued participation in the mass, and he set the standard for us teenagers who thought we were "too cool" to sing.

When I graduated from university and started teaching, I had some serious doubts about my ability to master my new profession. I was following everyone else's advice, and not my heart. It got to the point that I actually filled in all of the necessary applications to attend medical school, and had every intention of leaving the profession. So, in what I thought was my last year of teaching, I channeled Mr. Kozlow, and taught the way he did - valuing the student over the curriculum. As soon as I did that it turned out that I loved teaching and I was good at it, so I ripped up the application for medical school and after 13 years I am thrilled to say that I still love my job.

I attended O'Gorman between 1992 - 1997, and I count my blessings that I went to that school when I did. Mr. Kozlow was one of many gifted, caring teachers who helped guide me and my classmates through our volatile teenage years with patience, humour, and gentle but firm guidance. As a teacher, I think we often struggle to know whether we are truly making a difference, or simply helping students mark time on their way to graduation. Mr. Kozlow...you Sir...you made a difference. Through your words and actions, the things you said and left unsaid, you made a difference. Thank you so, so much. I was blessed to know you.
