So sad to hear of Brent's passing--so shocking. I met him through the 42nd pipes and drums-perth--had so many good memories with the band and the parades and the trip to Scotland. He was such a dedicated family man and he loved his job and his pipes. We saw him last summer at Maxville. He looked great and seemed so happy. I was glad he got to meet my Irish partner. He was a very kind, friendly man--so sad for all who knew him. He will be missed!

Dear Charlene, Matthew and Maighan,
I want to offer my sincere condolences on your recent loss. I am currently out of the county and was shocked to hear the news of Brent's passing and I can only imagine how difficult it has been for you and your family.
Brent was such a great co-worker and friend to me. He made coming into work every day something to look forward to. I always admired his happy attitude and looked forward to sharing our military stories with each other, even on hectic days. Everyone here at work will miss him.
Unfortunately, I am unable to attend Brent's celebration of life as I will still be out of the country, but wish to make a small monetary offering at Rob Roy's to buy one of Brent's favourite drinks and a few drinks for others in attendance at his celebration of life. I am sure it would be something he would have approved of.
May God's blessings and peace be with you, with hope that it helps you to know how much I care.
Sincerely, John Penner

The Bren Gun

I was a Cameron Highlander Army Cadet with Brent back in the late 70's and was amazed to meet him on a back road south of Perth when I was working in Westport Detachment at motor vehicle collision around 1993. I had no idea that he had joined the OPP as well.

Bret was our piper in the Camerons and well appreciated for his talents, and his mischeivous side. I can still remember him running around the parade square of the Cartier Drill Hall in Ottawa, holding an old WW2 Bren Gun over his head as punishment for some minor transgression.

Sad to hear that he is gone.

I'll always be with you.

Brent in the Pipe Band World

For many years, people that played in pipe bands when you were young became lifetime friends. That was such an amazing thing that when Brent met up with us a couple of years ago and expressed interest in joining the Sons of Scotland. As Pipe Major, I was flattered, as a friend I was thrilled to have him back in the ranks. What a great person, smart and funny, and just wonderful to be around. He loved Charlene so much and was very proud of his kids, and all his friends, some of us for decades, will miss him. His spirit will be wish us, always.
