Alf & Lore Buffam posted a condolence
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of Fred's family, especially Sharon & the girls. Fred touched our lives in many ways and it was an honour and a privilege to be able to call him our friend for the past 26 years. Fred was one of the greatest men we ever met, as a matter of fact, Alf said, "There wasn't a greater man." He was a kind and gentle soul, humble, he always had a beautiful smile on his face, and those baby blue eyes, a true gift from above. Fred treated our family as if we were his own. He was a wise man, a mentor to Alf & our children, demonstrated much love for our grandchildren and we will all miss this love & guidance extremely. Fred was a generous man and the community will feel his loss. May your fond memories of Fred help uplift your hearts at this huge time of sorrow. Sincerely Alf & Lore Buffam and family.

Sarah, I cannot tell you how sad I was to hear of Fred's passing. Some of my fondest memories growing up are of times I spent with you and your family. Whether it be Fred taking you and me skiing or your family generously opening their home as a welcoming place to hang out, I always appreciated how warm and welcome you all made me feel. I often think of you and wonder how you are doing and what you are up to. Please know that I am thinking of you during this difficult time and do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

As I sit here and think of Fred, this comes to mind....No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up for life. Getting up earns you bronze, dressing up earns you silver, but showing up wins you the gold. This was Fred. This was his life lesson to others. I have had many conversations with Fred over the years and I received just as much in return in the last year, as those before. Fred was a great listener. A hard worker, a deep thinker and a true friend to all that met him. He once said to me, when we had one of those thought provoking conversation after a Church meeting: "Look, at the end of it all, God is going to ask one question: Did you love? Thats all that matters." That was it. End of debate.
So,I was surprised to hear of his passing, as I last saw him a week before Christmas. His warm blue eyes filled with light, a light from inside when he saw me. We could spend time easily...He smiled like a man who loved others and was truly loved by family and friends in return. Thats all that really matters. Rest in peace dear Fred.
