Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Porter
Porter, Ruth Elizabeth
Ruth passed away in the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital, Perth, Ontario following a short illness. Ruth is survived by her sister Nancy Kenyon of Victoria, BC, her brother William E. Kenyon of Ridgefield, Connecticut, five nieces and two nephews, and many cousins in the Perth and Smiths Falls area. She is pre-deceased by her sister Margaret (Peggy) Molloy (nee Kenyon; formerly Kirkland) and her former husband Atwell Richard (Dick) Porter. Ruth was born in Toronto, the first child of William A. and Mildred Kenyon. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Food Science; later she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Library Science. Ruth lived and worked in London (England), Prague, Ottawa, Victoria, and Toronto. Eventually she settled in Perth, where she lived the remainder of her life. Ruth's roots in the Perth area were deep. Through her grandfather Isaac Kenyon, Ruth was related to the McKay, Acheson, Allan, Wood, Wills and Covell families of the area. Through her mother, she was also linked to the Dyke family.
While living in Perth, Ruth was a dedicated volunteer at the Perth & District Union Public Library, a member of the Lanark County Quilters' Guild, and a community gardener. She enjoyed visiting the family cottage on Otty Lake, and travelled regularly, staying in hostels and carrying a very small suitcase. Ruth and her infectious laugh will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Please join us in the Blair & Son Family Centre, 15 Gore St. W. Perth for a Celebration of Life to remember Ruth on Tuesday, August 11th, 2015 from 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. with a sharing of memories at 12:00 noon. Donations in her name can be made to the Perth & District Union Public Library.
