I have been thinking of Barb every day since I learned that she died. In many ways, I can't believe it. Barb was my cousin and I remember when we were both small girls at Christie Lake. She loved Ottawa Point deeply. She was very loving with our daughters, playing many games of whist and crib with them. We enjoyed some great talks at the front of the point. She spent a few weeks with us one Christmas. Barb's life was very difficult and challenging at times, and challenged me as a relative and a friend. There is so much that is not ours to know about another person. Despite these difficulties, Barb showed courage and was kind, and funny and very sentimental. She had a warm heart. I love the photo chosen and I will remember Barb with love.

Dear Giles Family:
I heard of Barb's untimely death from a friend and colleague at the addiction agency formerly called TriCounty Addictions Services.
Although I have been retired for five years now, I still remember Barb fondly. Barb had the gift of listening and not judging. And her sense of humour was often a welcome relief during stressful work days. Barb also knew not just how to give but how to receive and that is not as common as one might imagine.
Please know that I am very sad to hear that Barb has died because I believe she still had plenty of love and compassion to offer.

I remember having some really nice chats with Barbara at the barn when we were both riding. She cared deeply for the horses and seemed to be always in a happy place when she was around them. RIP Barbara.

I met Barb when I first moved to Perth and she was so kind and loving and caring and giving to me and everyone around her. We lost touch over the years but she will always be in my heart. She was brillant in knowing how to process issues, very empathic and yes, a great listener. I wish we could have gotten closer and that is why my heart feels heavy. I also trust that everything's in Divine Order and every life valuable and precious and needed and she served humanity well through her loving heart, helping others, being an example to others. Thank you dear Barb and the great soul you are. I can't attend the celebration of her life but I played a song in her honour last night at an open mic. I know she was there. Blessings to her family and friends.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of a treasured family member. Barb was my sister's best friend for many, many years. We were all so deeply moved by the fact that Barb drove, all alone, from Perth to Fredeicton, to be at my sister's memorial last November. I am sure they are having a great time catching up on old times.
May she Rest In Peace.

I have four photos of Barb .. would you like me to send them? Or just to upload them to the funeral home site? Please let me know your wishes.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Barb was a lovely soul. I was glad to know her and to work with her in the circle of care of people living with deep pain. She will be missed by many, to be sure. I am honouring her memory at the Hospice Care Ottawa Shine a Light celebration this year. Her name will be on the Memory Wall at the May Court Hospice on December 7.
Holding you in my heart,
Elspeth MacEwan

I was a friend and colleague of Barbara's late father David Giles and have fond memories of visits to Dave's and Margaret's condo and cottage where we met Barbara.
Please accept the condolences of my wife Margaret and me on the loss of a wonderful lady who was so good to her parents.

Barb and I met at Preston Rosedale Farm where we spent many hours together around the horses we loved. Barb was especially keen on Max and while she may not have believed it herself, she was a natural-born rider. In the saddle Barb exuded calmness and quietness and she seemed to really connect with Max. Horses know a good soul when they meet one and Barb was a very good soul indeed.
I will miss her twinkling eyes and broad smile but I will remember her every time I write something in the beautiful hand-bound journal she gave me when I bought my horse. It was such a sweet, kind thing for her to do.
Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

I am so saddened to hear of Barbs passing. I have tried to connect with her over the years to no avail. Each year, I would google her to see if I could find her, ultimately seeing she was in Perth. We met when we were both 15, the youngest ones at Vanier. She was my best friend at Vanier and years later through Bishops. We would have been roomies in Ville St Laurent but that did not happen - allowing us to continue our education. We shared so much in those early years. The last time we spoke was about 24 years ago when I called to let her know we were expecting our first child. And then we lost touch.
Glenn, I am so sorry that she has been taken at such a young age. She was a good person with a very kind heart and a great laugh. May she rest in peace. Wishing you and your family my sincerest condolences. Lorraine
